As the global population ages, the number of people living with dementia is rising rapidly, presenting significant challenges for individuals, families, and healthcare systems worldwide. Addressing these challenges requires a multidisciplinary approach that integrates research from biomedical sciences, social sciences, and the humanities.
Despite progress in dementia research, many crucial areas remain underexplored. This Special Issue aims to highlight understudied and relatively untapped areas of dementia research. Contributions may include, but are not limited to topics such as sexuality and intimacy at the social or neural level, music and art therapy (including the neurological basis for their effects), death and dying, pain perception, authority, autonomy and capacity, human rights and freedoms, institutional and state abuse, as well as intersectional inequalities.
By bringing together diverse perspectives from neuroscience, social sciences, and the humanities, this Special Issue aims to illuminate areas that researchers from different disciplines consider overlooked. Our goal is to foster a comprehensive understanding of dementia and promote innovative approaches to care and support.
If you believe there are aspects of dementia that do not receive enough attention in research but should, we invite you to contribute to this collection.
