Dementia Action Week 2022

Dementia Action Week 2022It’s Dementia Action Week, Alzheimer’s Society’s biggest and longest running awareness campaign. Each year, they work with individuals and organisations across the UK to encourage people to ‘act on dementia’, and this year’s theme is diagnosis – which is important, as we know referrals to hospitals and diagnosis rates have dropped since the start of the pandemic.

As a dementia researcher, you are already acting, and we know that everyone living with dementia, families, loved ones and carers when we say that we are incredibly appreciative of the amazing work you do.

If you’d like to do more, here are three things everyone could do to support #DAW2022.

1.Participate in a Research StudyJoin Dementia Research [1] was created to match people with and without dementia to research studies. Research studies are looking for people of all ages, across the country (even PhD Students in their 20’s). Register today, and consider sharing with your family and friends, and if you work clinically, your patients too. If you live outside the UK, there are other national registers, such as Step-up for Dementia Research in Australia, and Trial Match in the USA.

2.Raise Money – We work with four brilliant dementia charities, who all work tirelessly to raise awareness and fund research. Please consider ways to raise money to contribute to their cause. They all have specific campaigns and events, but you could also consider raising money through something you’re doing in your everyday life.
