Dementia Research Chatathon Live

On the 7th September, our own Adam Smith [1] hosted a marathon 12 hour live-stream session, talking with 56 researchers and four special guests. The aim of the event, being to share information with the public, on some of the amazing research taking place and the raise much needed funding for Alzheimer’s Research UK. With the majority of contributions coming from early careers researchers, including researchers who are regular contributors to our website, the event was a great showcase for emerging talent,

Throughout the day, over 2,000 visitors attended the session, to watch and ask questions via YouTube, Zoom and Periscope. Donations totalled £3,800, and he is continuing to work towards meeting his £5,000 target.

Recordings from the day are available at www.chatathon.uk [2]

Adam Smith said “Researchers are doing amazing work, and I wanted to give people a chance to see some of the wide range of research taking place. Looking at prevention, improving care, diagnosis, discovering what goes on in the brain, new treatments and research to improve care homes, and evidence how activities such as art can help. The researchers I spoke with, were all amazing! They made the day so easy to do, and the hours literally flew by, and the technology was amazingly well behaved”

The full recording is available now – each segment will also be available as separate film clips, and will be shared via out YouTube channel within the next few days,

Information on the event, and guests and how to donate can be found at www.chatathon.uk [2] – please consider donating what you can to help meet their target.
