Ageing and the Ethics of Dementia from the Lens of Medical Humanities

We invite you to the next lecture in our “Phenomenology of Dementia and Aging Network” series, taking place on Monday, June 2, 2025, from 14:00 to 15:30 CET (online via Zoom).
We are delighted to welcome Ieva Stončikaitė (Barcelona) and Katharina Fürholzer (Koblenz), who will present a talk entitled:
“Ageing and the Ethics of Dementia from the Lens of Medical Humanities: The Case of Gabriel García Márquez’s Until August”
Ieva Stončikaitė holds a PhD in Cultural & Literary Gerontology and English Studies. She is currently a Postdoc and English literature lecturer at the Department of Humanities at Pompeu Fabra University (UPF, Barcelona). Ieva is also a member of ENAS and the research group CELCA (University of Lleida). Her areas of academic focus include literary and cultural representations of ageing, medical humanities, dementia and care, age-friendly higher education and travel writing.
Katharina Fürholzer, PhD, is Professor for Interdisciplinary Studies at the University of Koblenz, Germany. She earned a Joint-PhD in Literary Studies (Universities of Münster & Ghent) and conducted postdoctoral work in Medical Ethics (University of Ulm), Comparative Literature (University of Pennsylvania), and Ageing Studies (University of Rostock). In 2024, she completed her Habilitation focusing on aphasia through a medical humanities lens.
