SUMMARY:Families for the Treatment of Hereditary MND (FaTHoM)
DESCRIPTION:Families for the Treatment of Hereditary MND (FaTHoM) is an initiative to bring together the community of families affected by inherited (genetic) forms of MND. \nWith meetings and events consisting of expert talks on key issues affecting such families\, FaTHoM is open to any person living with an inherited form of MND\, and the close relatives of those affected by inherited forms of the disease. \nA dedicated day for those affected by genetic forms of MND and their wider families. An opportunity to learn about current and future trials and research from leading neurologists and researchers\, and to meet with other families from around the country living with hereditary MND in a friendly and supportive educational environment. \nFaTHoM Day\, 2026 will take place on Thursday\, April 30th 2026 at the Milton Hill House Hotel\, Abingdon\, Oxfordshire.  \nThis event is free of charge\, and a maximum of four people per family may attend (aged over 18). SUMMARY:Research Showcase - Blood Biomarkers for Alzheimer’s Across Diverse Communities
DESCRIPTION:Can Alzheimer’s disease blood biomarkers work equally well across all populations. And how acceptable are these tests for communities that have historically been under represented in research. \nThis livestream is part of the Dementia Researcher weekly Showcase series. Each week we host a 45 minute online session bringing researchers together to share their work\, methods\, and ideas. \nIn this session\, Natalia Chemas will present research from her NIHR funded doctoral fellowship exploring the diagnostic validity of Alzheimer’s disease blood biomarkers in ethnic minority groups. Her work examines whether these emerging diagnostic tools perform consistently across different populations and explores how acceptable this testing approach is for diverse communities. \nNatalia is a PhD student at Queen Mary University of London working within the dementia research team at the Centre for Psychiatry and Neuroscience. She completed a Psychology BSc in Colombia and a Mental Health Sciences MSc at University College London\, and has experience supporting research studies across academia\, the NHS\, and industry. \nHer doctoral research is supervised by Charles Marshall\, Claudia Cooper\, and Ashvini Keshavan and focuses on improving equitable access to emerging diagnostic approaches in Alzheimer’s disease. \nAttendees can expect a research focused session with time for questions and discussion. \n\nRegister

DESCRIPTION:Alzheimer Europe Research Insights\, a public webinar series focused on new developments and topics in research. Research Insights are interactive webinars bringing together academic and industry researchers\, clinicians\, national Alzheimer organisations\, policymakers and the wider dementia community\, to exchange knowledge on cross-cutting research topics. Through these\, Alzheimer Europe aims to increase the visibility and impact of European research projects\, support collaboration across consortia\, and raise awareness of research developments in the European dementia community. \nEach session will be hosted on Zoom\, moderated by Alzheimer Europe\, and will combine short presentations from selected projects and initiatives with a panel discussion and audience Q&A. Recordings will be made publicly available afterwards\, via Alzheimer Europe’s YouTube channel. \nOur first Research Insights session will take place on 22 April from 14.00 to 16.00 CET and address the what\, why and how of data sharing in dementia research\, illustrating practical approaches\, platforms and use cases\, alongside perspectives from lived experience. DESCRIPTION:Dementia Update – Virtual Series #14 – Event by Swiss Network for Dementia Research \nEvelina Voloviceva is a PhD student in the group of Dr. Jérôme Robert\, where she studies how genetic variation in apolipoprotein E (APOE) shapes the risk of Alzheimer’s disease. Although APOE4 is known as the strongest genetic risk factor\, how APOE influences brain function is still not fully understood. \nIn this webinar\, Evelina Voloviceva presents a new perspective on apolipoprotein E (APOE)\, moving beyond its traditional view as a single lipid transport protein. In the brain\, APOE is produced by different cell types including astrocytes\, pericytes\, and microglia which generate distinct lipoprotein particles.
