SUMMARY:Equadem Quarterly Network Event
DESCRIPTION:Join us in Bournemouth for an afternoon of updates and discussion on addressing inequalities in dementia diagnosis and care\, as part of EquaDem – a national network funded by the ESRC and NIHR that brings together diverse stakeholders to identify solutions to dementia inequalities. \nThis quarterly networking event is open to anyone with an interest in dementia\, including health and social care professionals\, third-sector organisations\, people with lived experience\, and researchers. \nSpeakers \nDr Gladys Yinusa will present her research on ‘Tailoring an Evidence-Based Nutritional Care Intervention – The TOMATO Study’. Gladys will discuss how a nutritional intervention was adapted for people living with dementia at home and share insights from involving carers\, home care workers\, and community stakeholders across diverse ethnic communities and geographical regions. \nSue Warr will share how PramaLife\, a local charity supporting older adults in the community\, is tackling inequalities in information and support provision through dementia awareness training\, peer support groups\, and the Oakley Friends information course. She will also highlight the challenges of delivering dementia support within the local area. \nThe full agenda of our Bournemouth-based quarterly event will be released soon. \nHow to get to BU: \nLansdowne campus is located in the city centre and is easily accessed via bus and train links. SUMMARY:Catchup - Salon - Working with Brain Tissue in Dementia Research
DESCRIPTION:This Salon webinar brings together Dr Lauren Walker from Newcastle University and  Dr Daniel Ruiz Gabarre from the UKDRI at the University of Edinburgh to explore Working with Brain Tissue in Dementia Research.\n \nWorking with brain tissue brings dementia research into direct contact with the biological changes that underpin memory\, identity\, and decline. It offers insights no scan or model can fully replicate\, but also raises complex practical\, ethical\, and emotional questions. How do we handle such precious material with care and purpose? And what can it really tell us about the diseases we are trying to prevent or treat? Today\, we will explore the unique role of brain tissue in dementia research—and hear how our speakers are using it to answer some of the field’s most urgent questions. \nSpeakers\n\nDr Daniel Ruiz Gabarre – is a postdoctoral Research Fellow at University of Edinburgh within the UK Dementia Research Institute. His interests range widely from molecular biology and neurodegeneration to sociolinguistics and science communication. He is currently researching molecular mechanisms of Small vessel disease and its implication in vascular dementias\, with a focus on preclinical models such as the Atp11B KO rat model. Dan is proud to introduce himself as gay\, a pharmacist and neuroscientist. He is a member of PRISMA\, a Spanish association defending gender\, sexual and affective diversity in STEM and Innovation and he has contributed to the creation of an Equality Committee. \nDr Lauren Walker – is an Alzheimer’s Research UK Fellow based at Newcastle University\, specialising in the neuropathology of Lewy body dementia and Alzheimer’s disease. With a background in Physiological Sciences and Medical and Molecular Biosciences\, she progressed through technical roles and a PhD to her current research focus on co‑pathologies in neurodegenerative disorders. A Sunderland AFC supporter and former dancer\, Lauren combines rigorous clinicopathological techniques with a passion for teamwork and resilience in academic research. \nProgramme\nThe format of the event is a 60 minute livestream where the speakers will each present their thoughts on this topic for 10-15 minutes each\, the host and audience are then invited to ask question\, or join the livestream with their own contributions on the topic.\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAvailable to join exclusivley in Dementia Researcher Communities – Online or in the App\n\nWatch the Recording
