DESCRIPTION:The Research Methods Rendezvous (RMR) is a unique opportunity to explore puzzles\, ideas and questions\, and begin to transform them into research that is important\, feasible and impactful. \nThe RMR is a free\, innovative\, online initiative designed to be a source of inspiration\, a research incubator and a networking opportunity. Based on two half-day intensive sessions in autumn 2025\, the RMR explores two parts of the research process: \n\nI wonder: the curiosity that sparks our research (10 September)\nHow can we: the process of shaping those sparks into tangible projects (29 October)\n\nBetween the sessions\, a seven-week collaboration period enables participants to co-shape the development of ideas. Applications to participate are open until Wednesday\, 2 July 2025. \nRead more about the event below or download a PDF of the full call for participation. \nStructure of the rendezvous\nRendezvous One: I wonder…\n10 September 2025 \nRendezvous One concerns ideation\, the ideas we have as we start to generate our research projects. These come from unfinished questions\, empirical observations\, theoretical intrigues or methodological curiosities. Attendees will get the chance to hear lightning talks from researchers outlining these early-stage ideas. \nView the programme for Rendezvous One \nThe researchers presenting their ideas were selected by NCRM following a contributor application process earlier in 2025. All speakers are active researchers sharing their own early-stage work. \nThe interregnum\n11 September to 28 October 2025 \nDuring this period\, the ideas from Rendezvous One will be developed into sessions for Rendezvous Two. Discussion boards will be hosted on the RMR online platform for each idea presented. \nParticipants will be invited to contribute thoughts\, resources and suggestions. With the contributor’s approval\, you may also have the opportunity to take a more active role\, potentially joining a team developing a Rendezvous Two session. \nRendezvous Two: how can we…\n29 October 2025 \nRendezvous Two concerns how we turn our wonderings into researchable questions. Through 80-minute parallel workshops\, contributors and participants will discuss or co-develop ideas\, exploring methods and next steps\, whether that be developing bid applications\, forming networks or submitting paper proposals. \nFormat for Rendezvous Two\nSessions will typically follow one of the formats below. However\, alternative format suggestions are welcomed. \n\nSpeakers’ corner: Where an individual presenter may want to outline the possibilities of how they can develop their research curiosity into something workable.\nOn the sofa with: Where a session has more than one presenter and aims to generate possibilities through discussion\, with space for audience participation or a Q and A at the end.\nKitchen table: Open to variation in format but a standard approach would be a talk by one or more people and then the chair opens a discussion.\nIn the studio: This can be more creative in design\, but may involve several participants who co-design an event (perhaps using creative methods) to get attendees to join in.\n\nAll sessions in Rendezvous Two will be 80 minutes in length. Sessions will be developed during the interregnum and will be listed on the programme page when details are confirmed. \nLogistics\nThis is a free\, online event. \nWe will be using Whova to host the rendezvous. This is a dedicated online event platform that allows for networking\, polls\, gamification and one-to-one meetings. SUMMARY:The Lived Experience and Researcher Network (LEARN)
DESCRIPTION:MND Scotland is once again hosting free\, interactive\, and educational local events focused on motor neuron disease research. The Lived Experience and Researcher Network (LEARN)\, organised by Scotland’s MND charity\, brings together people affected by motor neuron disease (MND) and local MND researchers. \nLEARN launched in 2023 when people with MND were invited to take tours of researchers’ laboratories and provide useful feedback to improve engagement events for people with MND and researchers. \nIn 2024\, 102 people attended four LEARN events in Aberdeen\, Dundee\, Edinburgh and Glasgow. \nThis year\, MND Scotland’s research team will be returning to Glasgow\, Aberdeen\, Edinburgh\, Dundee\, and an additional new location in Dingwall\, Scottish Highlands\, to help build relationships between researchers and people affected by MND and allow them to share knowledge and experiences. \nThe events will take place in football stadiums across the country thanks to the support from: Celtic FC\, Aberdeen FC\, Ross County Football Club\, Dundee United F.C.\, and Heart of Midlothian. \nOn the day\, attendees can expect to hear presentations from MND researchers; take part in open discussions with MND researchers and people affected by MND; participate in sessions facilitated to build relationships between attendees and researchers; and have opportunities to learn about current MND research. \nMotor neuron disease (MND) is a rapidly progressing terminal neurological illness\, which stops signals from the brain reaching the muscles. MND Scotland is the only charity in Scotland dedicated to directly supporting people living with motor neuron disease and their families and friends. \nThere are around 480 people in Scotland currently living with MND. DESCRIPTION:The ISTAART Partnering with Research Participants Professional Interest Area (PIA) invites you to a four-part learning series titled Evaluating and Improving Engagement of People with Lived Experience in Dementia Research. \nThe goal of this series is to build capacity and skills of researchers to conduct evaluations of research/projects that engage people with lived experience. Over the entire meeting series\, each participant will take part in both didactic learning and discussion sessions that help them to develop an evaluation plan  for a research/project that engages people with lived experience of dementia in order to improve their work. \nLearning objectives for participants include: \n\nDevelop or enhance knowledge of basic approaches to evaluation and improvement\nBuild skills in using an approach to evaluation that can be applied in participants’ own work\nDevelop or enhance knowledge of various data collection methods used in evaluation\nIdentify effective and relevant data collection methods for participants’ own evaluation purposes\nAddress ethical and methodological issues in order to be dementia friendly in the evaluation\nArticulate an evaluation and improvement plan\n\nEach virtual meeting will be 90 minutes. DESCRIPTION:Welcome to the 11th Annual Canadian Conference on Epigenetics!  \nThe Canadian Epigenetics\, Environment and Health Research Consortium (CEEHRC) is pleased to host the 11th Canadian Conference on Epigenetics from November 12 to 15\, 2025. The meeting will take place at the Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity in the spectacular Canadian Rockies\, approximately 1.5 hours from Calgary. This conference is intended to bring together a critical mass of epigenetics researchers\, along with key international leaders in the field\, to engage in cross-disciplinary dialogue on recent advancements in the field of epigenomics. \nThis year\, we will welcome over 200 national and international epigenetics researchers to share their research and to engage in dialogue on the current state of epigenetics research. Our scientific program includes distinguished invited speakers in the fields of epigenetics and epigenomics covering topics including epigenomic measurements at both the bulk and single cell level\, mechanisms of epigenetic regulation\, chromatin organization and epigenetic dysfunction in disease. These topics will be covered over 11 sessions that include keynote and plenary lectures and 2 poster sessions. SUMMARY:Coping styles & help seeking in dementia research: DETERMIND
DESCRIPTION:“What can coping styles tell us about help seeking in dementia? Findings from DETERMIND” Presented by Isaac Duncan-Cross \nIsaac Duncan-Cross is nearing the end of his PhD at the University of Sussex under the supervision of Dr Eleanor Miles and Dr Ben Hicks\, focussed on affect regulation and help seeking in people with dementia. His research takes place in collaboration with the DETERMIND Project\, a national research initiative focussed on tackling dementia care inequalities in the UK. \nIsaac will present the mixed-method findings of his PhD research\, looking at the relationship between coping and formal service use in dementia. He will present coping styles as a novel predictor of diagnostic timing in dementia\, performing above and beyond pre-established sociodemographic predictors. He will also discuss both coping and help seeking post-diagnosis\, as experienced by people with dementia themselves. \nRegister to Attend

Join Dr Isabel Castanho & Dr Eleanor Conole for a live debate on 12 Nov at 8pm and vote on the motion. \n\nDebate Motion: \nThis House believes that AI is furthering disparities in research and care.\n\nAs artificial intelligence becomes more integrated into healthcare and research\, it brings opportunities for innovation in diagnosis\, treatment\, and data management. At the same time\, its use raises important questions about fairness\, representation\, and access. This debate will explore whether AI is helping to reduce disparities\, or whether it risks reinforcing existing ones. \n\nSpeaker For the Motion:\nDr Isabel Castanho is an Instructor at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center\, Harvard Medical School. Her research investigates protective mechanisms in Alzheimer’s and related neurodegenerative diseases\, using single‑cell and spatial transcriptomics to explore cognitive resilience. She completed her PhD in epigenomics of Alzheimer’s disease at the University of Exeter\, and transitioned from bench lab work to computational biology\, leading to promoted role in 2024. \nSpeaker Against the Motion:\nDr Eleanor Conole is a Junior Research Fellow in Applied AI at the University of Oxford\, affiliated with the Department of Biochemistry. Her research explores the links between inflammation\, brain ageing\, and cognitive decline\, building on her previous work with the Lothian Birth Cohorts at the University of Edinburgh.
