SUMMARY:2026 Tauopathy Challenge Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Established in 2023 by the Rainwater Charitable Foundation\, the Tauopathy Challenge Workshop is a funding program that convenes interdisciplinary experts around a single topic to address unmet needs in the primary tauopathies. \nTauopathies\, a class of neurodegenerative diseases characterized by the abnormal accumulation of pathologic forms of the tau protein\, represent a significant health challenge. While the pathological role of tau protein aggregates in neurodegeneration is well-established\, the precise molecular mechanisms driving their formation and neurotoxicity remain elusive. \nYou can learn more about our 2024 winners and the 2025 workshop here. \n2026 Topic\nEach year a new topic is selected as the focus for the workshop. The 2026 Tauopathy Challenge Workshop will focus on employing advanced biophysical and bioanalytical approaches to probe the structural and thermodynamic properties of tau protein\, its modifications\, and interactions with other pathologies. \nBy gaining a deeper understanding of these molecular characteristics with the most current technology\, the workshop aims to identify potential therapeutic approaches and biomarker targets for development. Below is a non-exhaustive list of research topics. Note: broad screening approaches-alone without mechanism connection are not encouraged to apply. \n• The molecular architecture and dynamics of misfolded tau with and without copathologies;\n• The impact of protein-membrane interactions on tauopathies;\n• Validating computational approaches that model protein aggregation;\n• Novel approaches for studying post-translational modifications of tau;\n• Determining which physiologically relevant cofactors and modifications drive tau pathology;\n• How do changes in tau pathology inform the status of disease progression. \nApplications are Now Open\nTo submit an LOI to the 2026 Tauopathy Challenge Workshop: \n\nLog In or Create an Account\n\nNOTE: Please only click the hyperlinks provided in this section when applying. The “Grantee Portal” link at the top of our website should not be used for the Tauopathy Challenge Workshop. \n\nOnce logged in\, click Apply at the top left of the screen next to the Home icon.\nEnter access code “WORKSHOP26” in the box at top of the page and click Enter Code. (Password is case sensitive and includes space.)\nClick the Apply button at the top right of the LOI description.\nAnswer questions in application.\nClick Save if you’d like to return to the LOI later.\nClick Submit when you have completed the form. Once you’ve submitted the LOI\, you’ll receive an automated email confirmation.\n\nWho Can Apply\nOur aim is to convene leaders across multiple disciplines including structural biology\, metabolomics\, proteomics\, biochemistry\, spectroscopy and biophysics to posit new insights on tau pathology. To be eligible for consideration\, applicants must: \n• Hold a faculty appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor or above\, or be an industry leader.\n• Have an independent laboratory space and be able to hold independent funding as confirmed by their institution.\n• Work at an academic\, medical\, research institution or company anywhere in the world. \nSpecial consideration will be given to junior scientists (Assistant professor-level). \nProcess\nThe RCF uses a letter of interest (LOI) process to solicit novel proposals from the research community. Through the LOI process\, up to 12 participants are selected to move forward and invited to attend the 2-day in person workshop and then to apply for research grants providing up to $500\,000 in direct costs over two years; up to four awards will be funded\, pending budget availability. \nImportant Dates\n\n\n\n\nLetter of Intent Submission Dates\nJuly 15 – September 2\, 2025\n\n\nLetter of Intent Notification Date\nOctober 15\, 2025\n\n\nWorkshop Date / Location\nJanuary 26-28\, 2026 / Dallas\, TX\n\n\nPost-workshop Grant Notification Date\nJuly 15\, 2026\n\n\nStart of Post-workshop Grant Term\nSeptember / October 2026

SUMMARY:Catchup - Mapping Dementia Risk Through Genes and Environment
DESCRIPTION:Why do some people develop Alzheimer’s disease while others with similar backgrounds do not. How do genetics interact with environment and social factors to shape individual risk. This session tackles these questions by looking at dementia risk as a whole system rather than a single cause. \nThis livestream is part of the Dementia Researcher weekly Showcase series. Each week we host a 45 minute online session that brings researchers together to share their work\, ideas\, and approaches. \nIn this session\, Dr Shea Andrews will introduce his research programme at UCSF\, which integrates genetic\, environmental\, and social risk factors to develop dementia risk assessment tools for personalised medicine in Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias. He will focus on genetic exposome approaches\, showing how combining large scale genetic data with real world exposure information can improve how we predict risk\, understand disease mechanisms\, and tailor prevention strategies. \n\nShea is an Assistant Professor at the University of California San Francisco\, specialising in genetics and genomics. Attendees can expect a clear and research focused talk that bridges population science and personalised medicine\, with time for questions and discussion at the end.\n\n\n\n\nWatch the Recording

SUMMARY:Catchup - Precision Inflammation in the Brain
DESCRIPTION:Inflammation plays a central role in many neurological conditions\, yet the immune system in the brain behaves very differently from the rest of the body. Understanding how these responses are regulated\, and how they can be influenced with precision\, is an active area of research. \n\nThis Salon Research Showcase session brings together researchers and the public for a 45 minute online session to explore how inflammation in the brain can be studied and controlled using phenotype driven approaches.\nIn this session\, Dr Kate Harris from Newcastle University will discuss her research on brain inflammation\, focusing on cell based screening and target deconvolution as tools for identifying new ways to modulate immune responses. She will explore how these approaches help reveal subtle immune behaviours and why controlling inflammation requires nuance rather than broad suppression.\nAttendees can expect a clear overview of phenotype driven discovery\, insight into how immune targets are identified\, and time for questions and discussion.\n\n\n\nWatch the Recording

SUMMARY:ADI Open Webinar: The diagnostics revolution is now!
DESCRIPTION:Time and accuracy issues\, stigma\, and a lack of specialist capacity\, have been major barriers to diagnosis for Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias. In recent times we have been on the cusp of revolution in diagnostics and have been calling on health system preparedness and readiness. That diagnostics revolution\, that we envisaged and hoped for\, is happening right now! \nFollowing on from ADI’s End of Year Forecast event in December 2025\, we are now bringing together the leading lights in this rapidly emerging diagnostics space\, no longer to ask ‘are we ready’ but how are these new diagnostics being implemented\, how are clinics and health systems integrating them\, what are the barriers and solutions to their use\, what are the training gaps and who is leading and innovating in the space. \nJoin us on 26 February to hear from a leading panel of experts about how new blood tests (blood-based biomarkers) are being introduced and integrated\, advancements in CSF (cerebral spine fluid) testing\, digital biomarkers in practice and the emergence of online and at home cognitive testing. Learn more about roll out plans for these new tools\, about regulation and about reimbursement. \nUnderpinning all of this we will also hear from a person living with dementia\, who has first-hand experience of the diagnostics pathway and true insight into how these emerging new tools can improve and set a new standard for diagnosis. \nWe will also shine a light on how diagnostics are changing the face of clinical trial recruitment and we will get invaluable insight into how one research project is testing the new blood tests in practice\, tackling training alongside testing accuracy and efficacy. \nJoin this webinar and to put your question to our expert panel. \nRegister to Attend
