SUMMARY:Research Showcase - Dementia & Employment Research Priorities
DESCRIPTION:What support do people living with dementia need to remain in work. How can employers\, policy makers\, researchers\, and carers work together to shape better employment support.\n\nThis livestream is part of the Dementia Researcher weekly Showcase series. Each week we host a 45 minute online session bringing researchers together to share their work\, methods\, and ideas. \nIn this session\, Dr Rachel Allen from the University of West of Scotland present current work from the Working with Dementia Network + project\, which explores dementia and employment across research\, policy\, and practice. The project has recently completed a series of Nominal Group Technique focus groups designed to identify priorities for future work in this area. \nThese groups brought together people living with a dementia diagnosis\, carers\, employers and managers\, professionals involved in policy\, and researchers. Rachel will discuss why this approach was used\, what participants identified as key priorities\, and how these findings will shape the next phase of the Network Plus programme. \nAttendees can expect a research focused session with time for questions and discussion. \n\nRegister

SUMMARY:Evelina Voloviceva - Lipoproteins at the blood-brain barrier interfaces
DESCRIPTION:Dementia Update – Virtual Series #14 – Event by Swiss Network for Dementia Research \nEvelina Voloviceva is a PhD student in the group of Dr. Jérôme Robert\, where she studies how genetic variation in apolipoprotein E (APOE) shapes the risk of Alzheimer’s disease. Although APOE4 is known as the strongest genetic risk factor\, how APOE influences brain function is still not fully understood. \nIn this webinar\, Evelina Voloviceva presents a new perspective on apolipoprotein E (APOE)\, moving beyond its traditional view as a single lipid transport protein. In the brain\, APOE is produced by different cell types including astrocytes\, pericytes\, and microglia which generate distinct lipoprotein particles. Her research reveals that these particles differ in their protein and lipid composition depending on their cellular origin\, and that these differences are linked to key processes in Alzheimer’s disease\, such as amyloid pathology and disrupted lipid metabolism. \n𝐄𝐯𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐝𝐞𝐭𝐚𝐢𝐥𝐬 \n𝐃𝐚𝐭𝐞: 30.04.2026\n𝐓𝐢𝐦𝐞: 16:00\n𝐃𝐮𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧: 45 minutes (includes Q&A)\n𝐋𝐨𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧: Online (link to be provided upon registration) \n\nRegister

SUMMARY:Inaugural SENSE meeting
DESCRIPTION:Sensory\, motor and perceptual disturbances are common and often life-limiting consequences of brain disorders. These disturbances do not neatly adhere to medical specialities\, posing particular challenges to diagnosis and treatment. More broadly\, these brain-based disturbances offer insights regarding both vulnerability and adaptability of our sensory and motor systems. \nThis inaugural SENSE meeting will showcase research across the senses. We will introduce the sensoria: from visual and auditory\, to proprioceptive (the ‘sixth sense’) and vestibular systems (the ‘silent sense’) alongside systems relevant to eye\, gait and balance control. We will present emerging findings informing understanding of mechanisms underlying imbalance\, spatial disorientation and altered perception. We will share translation of research to improve diagnostics and treatment across scales: from individual patients\, to working across NHS eye\, movement and cognitive clinics\, UK Biobank and international initiatives. \n\nFind out more
