DESCRIPTION:International Neuromodulation Society (INS) \nINS is a nonprofit group of clinicians\, scientists and engineers dedicated to the scientific development and awareness of neuromodulation – the alteration of nerve activity through the delivery of electrical stimulation or chemical agents to targeted sites of the body. Founded in 1989 and based in San Francisco\, CA\, the INS educates and promotes the field through meetings\, its MEDLINE-indexed\, peer-reviewed journal Neuromodulation: Technology at the Neural Interface\, and chapter websites. \nThe Mission of the INS is to promote and disseminate the science\, education\, practice and accessibility of all aspects of neuromodulation. SUMMARY:Inaugural SENSE meeting
DESCRIPTION:Sensory\, motor and perceptual disturbances are common and often life-limiting consequences of brain disorders. These disturbances do not neatly adhere to medical specialities\, posing particular challenges to diagnosis and treatment. More broadly\, these brain-based disturbances offer insights regarding both vulnerability and adaptability of our sensory and motor systems. \nThis inaugural SENSE meeting will showcase research across the senses. We will introduce the sensoria: from visual and auditory\, to proprioceptive (the ‘sixth sense’) and vestibular systems (the ‘silent sense’) alongside systems relevant to eye\, gait and balance control. We will present emerging findings informing understanding of mechanisms underlying imbalance\, spatial disorientation and altered perception. SUMMARY:Reframing Dementia\, Distress and Inpatient Care
DESCRIPTION:Join us at the University of West London on May 14\, 2026\, at 6:00 PM for an inspiring talk from Professor Emma Wolverson. Professor of Ageing and Dementia at the Geller Institute of Ageing and Memory. \n\n\nAs a clinical academic\, my programme of research challenges negative perceptions of dementia by focusing on people’s strengths and by supporting the clinical teams who care for them. My goal is to empower teams to develop and deliver evidence-based care to improve experiences and outcomes for people living with dementia and their families\, enabling health and social care professionals to respond to an individual’s needs with skill and empathy. My research programme draws on positive psychology to deliver this evidence. Building on these foundations\, my current National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) funded research programme focuses on the dementia crisis – particularly when a crisis leads to an emergency admission within an inpatient mental health ward\, a setting which cares for the most unwell\, vulnerable\, and high-risk people living with dementia. Being admitted can be frightening and overwhelming for both the person and their family. Stays are often long\, and many people do not return home afterwards. \nInpatient mental health wards for people living with dementia are an invisible and highly stigmatised setting where research has historically been absent\, and where the evidence base for high-quality care is lacking. In response\, my research is working directly with families and frontline clinical teams in these under-resourced ward settings to transform cultures of care and to improve safety and well-being during and following a crisis. \nThis forms the basis of my distinctive body of work\, which seeks to understand dementia through a lens of hope and possibility and\, in so doing\, drive practical\, evidence-based care in health and social care settings where it is most needed. \nYour data will be used to administer the event. Register for EGGA on our Zoom portal here. \nOur Essential Guide to Grant Applications (EGGA) is a free-to-attend\, online\, three-day masterclass\, funded and hosted by NIHR RSS USP\, on how to write a grant application for applied health or social care research that is strong from a methodological point of view\, reads well and presents a convincing case for funding. The event will cover important writing tips\, along with guidance on what reviewers will be looking for in an application. Attendees will learn how to make their research idea clear and compelling to reviewers\, how to write a good methods section and how to demonstrate credible support. \nThe online masterclass focuses on how to sell your research idea by: \n\nwriting a convincing application with a good structure\, flow and argument;\npresenting a strong methods section\, including statistical\, qualitative\, health economics and Patient and Public Involvement (PPI) elements;\nhaving a good project plan;\nengaging with sources of external support for your research.\n\n\n\n\n\nWhat’s the format?\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nEGGA is held online. DESCRIPTION:The Young Dementia Network webinar on Tuesday 19th May 2026 at 12.30-1.30pm will explore the experiences of autistic people when accessing dementia healthcare\, highlighting some of the barriers they may encounter and the importance of making services more accessible and inclusive. \nIt will outline the work being undertaken at Dementia UK to develop clear\, accessible information and resources for both the autistic community and healthcare professionals\, with the aim of improving understanding\, communication and support. \nIt will also examine the complex relationship between autism and young onset dementia. In particular\, it will consider how certain characteristics commonly associated with autism\, such as differences in communication\, behaviour and sensory processing\, may sometimes be misunderstood or misattributed as signs of young onset dementia. We will discuss how these overlaps can contribute to confusion in assessment and diagnosis\, and why greater awareness among healthcare professionals is essential. \nPresenters at the webinar include Ryan Gray\, Research Assistant at Dementia UK\, who leads on the young onset dementia strand of its 2023-2026 strategy and Gavin Stewart PhD\, a senior postdoctoral research fellow at King’s College London. Gavin is an expert in autism and ageing and his research takes a multifaceted approach to explore the life experiences of autistic people across adulthood and as they age. \nLou shares her lived experience as an autistic carer for her mum with dementia\, her difficulties in navigating services and her Mum’s transition into a care home. \n\nRegister

DESCRIPTION:We are pleased to announce the 5th conference on the Genomics of Brain Disorders. \nThis meeting will bring together international scientists and clinicians working across psychiatric\, neurodegenerative\, and neurodevelopmental disorders to explore how genetic variation shapes brain function and disease across the lifespan. By integrating perspectives from diverse disease areas\, the conference aims to identify shared principles and emerging insights across brain disorders. \nRecent advances in human genetics\, functional genomics\, and experimental modelling have transformed our understanding of the genetic architecture of brain disorders. Large-scale association studies\, sequencing efforts\, and multi-omic approaches are now revealing when and where genetic risk acts\, and how it converges on molecular pathways\, cell types\, and circuits in the healthy and diseased brain. \nThe programme will highlight these advances by discussing how to move from genetic discoveries to disease insight and by showcasing new tools and technologies to decode brain disorders. Sessions will also address applications to patient stratification and clinical trials\, as well as the translation of genetic findings into high-quality therapeutic targets. SUMMARY:Cognitive Rejuvenation through OSK
DESCRIPTION:Restoring seemingly lost bodily functions in age and age-related disorders has\, over recent years\, transitioned from the realm of science fiction to tangible research questions with high translational potential. Among the available approaches\, partial cellular reprogramming has emerged as one of the most promising strategies to promote tissue regeneration and restore cellular function\, while at the same time preserving cellular identities. However\, whether this approach bears fruit to rejuvenate cognitive processes has remained unknown until recently. \nIn this talk\, Prof. Johannes Gräff will highlight recent findings from his laboratory\, which show that partial reprogramming of engram neurons – bona fide memory trace cells – by OSK-mediated gene therapy leads to cognitive rejuvenation. This intervention reverses the expression of senescence and disease-related cellular hallmarks in aged mice and models of Alzheimer’s disease (AD)\, re-establishes aberrant epigenetic-transcriptional patterns pertaining to synaptic plasticity and counteracts AD-typical neuronal hyperexcitability. Importantly\, irrespective of the brain area targeted or the behavioural paradigm employed\, engram reprogramming also restores learning and memory capacities to levels comparable of healthy young animals.
