SUMMARY:Grant Writing Workshop for Clinicians & Health Researchers
DESCRIPTION:The Centre for Chronic Disease Control\, LMIC co-lead organisation of the National Institute for Health and Care Research Global Health Research Centre for Multiple Long-Term Conditions is organising a workshop on grant writing for clinicians and public health researchers in Kochi\, Kerala\, from August 17-21\, 2026. This workshop is part of the capacity-building endeavours under the ‘Research Capacity Strengthening’ work package of the Centre. \nGrant writing is an essential skill for clinician-scientists and public health researchers who want to turn important yet unanswered research questions into funded projects. It is also important to build collaborations and sustain research activities to address priority clinical and public health research questions. In a milieu of intense competition for limited research funding\, the following skills are crucial for clinicians and public health researchers: \n\n\n\n\n(a) frame a clear clinical or public health problem;\n(b) propose a rigorous and feasible methodology/approach;\n(c) articulate clear and precise outcomes and impact and\n(d) convincingly communicate all these within the word- or page-limit is essential. \n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout the workshop\n\n\n\n\nThis 5-day in-person workshop on grant writing will not only equip participants with the aforementioned skills but also provide an opportunity to seek guidance on their proposals from seasoned researchers with a track record of securing funding from national and international donors\, as well as to interact with grantors and grantees. The workshop will comprise a mix of short lectures\, practical exercises\, small-group work\, one-on-one mentoring sessions\, and panel discussions with funders and grant recipients. Participants will also have dedicated time to work on their proposal and receive feedback. \n\n\n\n\n\n\nWho should apply?\n\n\n\n\nThis workshop is designed for early- and mid-career clinician-scientists and public health researchers based in India who are interested in applying for grants to national or international funding agencies within the next 6-12 months. We particularly welcome applications from those who have not been successful in securing research funding in the past. We welcome applicants from diverse clinical and public health domains (non-communicable diseases\, multiple long-term conditions\, mental health\, digital health\, implementation science\, maternal and child health\, health systems\, environmental health\, etc.). \n\n\n\n\n\n\nKey learnings & Outcomes\n\n\n\n\nBy the end of the workshop\, participants will be able to \n\n\n\n\n\nUnderstand the grant funding landscape for clinical and public health research in India and globally\nDevelop a clear problem statement\nDraft compelling\, specific aims/objectives\nDesign robust methods and implementation plans\nPrepare realistic budgets and work plans\nAddress ethics\, equity\, and community engagement\nReceive individualised feedback on their draft proposal from experienced mentors\n\n\n\n\n\nDevelop a near-ready concept note or mini-proposal for a future grant call \n\n\n\n\n\n\nDuration of the workshop\n\n\n\n\n5 days (August 17-21\, 2026) \n\n\n\n\n\n\nFee to attend the workshop:\n\n\n\n\nThe workshop is free of cost to attend for all participants. Working alongside family members\, the project co-developed a new approach to using reminiscence as a way of strengthening and preserving relationships. \nThe session will explore how collaboration with families shaped the intervention\, what was learned through the co-design process\, and how reminiscence can support meaningful interaction and connection within care home settings. \nConnor is an early career researcher at the University of the West of Scotland whose research focuses on dementia care\, family involvement\, and collaborative approaches to improving the experiences of people living with dementia and those closest to them. \nAttendees can expect a thought provoking and discussion-led session with time for questions and conversation. \n\nRegister

Each week\, we host a 45-minute online session bringing researchers together to share their work\, methods\, and ideas. \nIn this session\, Cameron Heyman will present a high-level summary of his PhD research investigating white matter hyperintensities (WMHs) in people at increased risk for Alzheimer’s disease dementia. DESCRIPTION:The BRIDGES for Dementia Network+ is a national research initiative bringing together people with lived experience of dementia\, researchers\, designers\, and health professionals. \nOur goal is to rethink how technology can help people with dementia live full\, independent\, and connected lives. By combining expertise from arts\, health\, social care\, and technology\, we’ll co-design practical solutions that make a real difference to everyday life. \nWe would like to invite people with dementia\, researchers\, and representatives from different sectors to exchange their knowledge and experience to help improve the lives of those living with dementia. The conference is open to researchers\, universities\, industry\, charities\, and people with lived experience of dementia. \nThe conference will include updates on BRIDGES activities\, interactive sessions\, and technology demonstrations. DESCRIPTION:We are pleased to announce the 5th conference on the Genomics of Brain Disorders. \nThis meeting will bring together international scientists and clinicians working across psychiatric\, neurodegenerative\, and neurodevelopmental disorders to explore how genetic variation shapes brain function and disease across the lifespan. By integrating perspectives from diverse disease areas\, the conference aims to identify shared principles and emerging insights across brain disorders. \nRecent advances in human genetics\, functional genomics\, and experimental modelling have transformed our understanding of the genetic architecture of brain disorders. Large-scale association studies\, sequencing efforts\, and multi-omic approaches are now revealing when and where genetic risk acts\, and how it converges on molecular pathways\, cell types\, and circuits in the healthy and diseased brain. \nThe programme will highlight these advances by discussing how to move from genetic discoveries to disease insight and by showcasing new tools and technologies to decode brain disorders. Sessions will also address applications to patient stratification and clinical trials\, as well as the translation of genetic findings into high-quality therapeutic targets. Each week we host a 45 minute online session bringing researchers together to share their work\, methods\, and ideas. \nIn this session\, Dr Lily Cheng will present her research using computational modelling\, multimodal neuroimaging\, and biomarkers to investigate the biological diversity of brain ageing and Alzheimer’s disease. She will introduce SuperBigFLICA\, a semi-supervised multimodal data fusion framework that integrates amyloid PET\, tau PET\, grey matter density\, cortical thickness\, and pial surface area to identify patterns shared across imaging modalities. \nThe session will explore how these multimodal brain imaging patterns relate to cognition and neuropsychiatric symptoms\, while also discussing the opportunities and challenges of interpreting complex data fusion approaches in dementia research. \nLily Cheng is a Research Fellow at McLean Hospital in Belmont\, Massachusetts. SUMMARY:International Congress of Parkinson’s Disease and Movement Disorders
DESCRIPTION:The International Congress of Parkinson’s Disease and Movement Disorders brings together clinicians\, researchers\, healthcare professionals\, trainees and industry representatives working across Parkinson’s disease and other movement disorders. \nTaking place in Seoul\, the 2026 Congress will provide opportunities to hear about current research\, clinical practice and emerging approaches to diagnosing\, treating and supporting people affected by movement disorders. \nThe theme for the 2026 scientific programme is Understanding Aging in Movement Disorders\, examining how ageing influences disease mechanisms\, clinical presentation\, progression\, treatment and care. \nAbout the Congress\nThe annual Congress is organised by the International Parkinson and Movement Disorder Society\, a global professional society representing clinicians\, scientists and other healthcare professionals working in movement disorders. \nThe meeting aims to support the exchange of scientific and clinical knowledge\, encourage international collaboration and improve the diagnosis\, treatment and care of people living with Parkinson’s disease and related conditions. \nThe programme includes more than 60 educational and scientific sessions\, with content suitable for researchers and professionals at foundational\, intermediate and advanced levels. \nProgramme highlights\nThe Congress programme includes plenary lectures\, therapeutic sessions\, parallel presentations\, teaching courses\, applied skills sessions\, video-based case discussions\, oral presentations and e-posters. \nTopics relevant to dementia and neurodegeneration researchers include: \n\nAgeing and comorbidities in parkinsonism\nCognitive impairment in Parkinson’s disease\nNon-motor features of Parkinson’s disease\nEarly and prodromal Parkinson’s disease\nGenetics of Parkinson’s disease\nTau disorders\, including progressive supranuclear palsy and corticobasal degeneration\nNeuroimaging of parkinsonian disorders\nArtificial intelligence in movement disorders\nDigital health assessment\nPsychiatric complications in Parkinson’s disease\nMeasuring cognitive impairment\nSleep and parasomnias\nPalliative care in movement disorders\nEmerging therapeutics and clinical trial findings\n\nDelegates will also be able to attend sessions involving real patients and clinical cases\, the MDS Video Challenge\, Presidential Lectures and the MDS Keynote and Clinical Breakthroughs session. \nWorkshops and networking\nSpecial-interest workshops will cover clinical research methodology\, neurosurgery and paediatric movement disorders. \nThe Clinical Research Methodology Workshop will examine common methodological problems in movement disorders research and offer practical guidance on study design\, outcome measures and the interpretation of findings. \nNetworking events are planned for young delegates\, health professionals\, women working in movement disorders and basic scientists. Attendees can also take part in regional meetings\, society group meetings and other opportunities to connect with the international movement disorders community. \nAccessibility\nScientific sessions will offer real-time AI-generated captions and translations in more than 60 languages. \nWho should attend?\nThe Congress is aimed at: \n\nClinical and basic science researchers\nNeurologists and other clinicians\nNurses and allied health professionals\nResearch coordinators\nPsychologists and therapists\nPhD students\, trainees\, fellows and early career researchers\nProfessionals working in pharmaceutical and biotechnology organisations\n\nRegistration\nEarly registration rates are available until 30 July 2026. Regular registration will run from 31 July to 10 September 2026\, with onsite rates applying from 11 September. \nReduced registration rates are available for students\, junior participants\, basic scientists\, non-physician health professionals and eligible members living in low- and middle-income countries. \nRegistration includes access to scientific sessions\, e-poster sessions\, the exhibition\, delegate materials\, the Welcome Ceremony\, the MDS Video Challenge\, morning coffee breaks and recordings of plenary sessions following the meeting. SUMMARY:NIHR Academy Members' Conference 2026
DESCRIPTION:The NIHR Academy Members’ Conference 2026 will be held on 6 and 7 October. This will be a hybrid event with in-person attendance at The Queens Hotel\, Leeds\, and online streaming for a virtual audience. \nThe title of this year’s conference is NIHR20 – The future is digital: revolutionising health and care research. \nThe annual event is a fantastic opportunity for early career researchers to hear from inspiring speakers\, network with peers and understand more about the NIHR. The conference will include a packed schedule of keynote speakers\, panel discussions\, breakout sessions and networking opportunities. \nThe agenda and format of this year’s event has been developed with input from a steering group of NIHR Academy Members and a public contributor. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nRegistration\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe NIHR Academy Members’ Conference is a fantastic opportunity for early career researchers. To be eligible to attend the conference in person\, delegates should be an NIHR Academy Member currently on an NIHR academic path. Please note there are a limited number of in-person places. \nVirtual attendance is open to all. \nRegistration will open in June. Registration for an in person place will close on 31 July\, whereas registration to attend virtually will be open until 6 October. \nAfter registration you will receive a confirmation email for your requested place.
