SUMMARY:Research Showcase - Queer Minds Matter: Dementia\, Identity\, and the Politics of Being Seen
DESCRIPTION:How well does dementia research reflect the experiences of LGBTQ+ communities. And what happens when people living with dementia are excluded from the conversations that shape research\, policy\, and care. \nThis livestream is part of the Dementia Researcher weekly Showcase series. Each week we host a 45 minute online session bringing researchers together to share their work\, methods\, and ideas. \nIn this session\, Dáithí Clayton will chat with Dr Claudio Di Lorito\, Senior Research Fellow\, Primary Care and Population Health\, University College London & NIHR Research Support Service (RSS) Advisor and EDI Lead\, King’s College Hub. Together they will explore the current state of queer dementia research\, with a particular focus on the experiences of trans and nonbinary people living with dementia. Drawing on both research and lived experience\, they will reflect on how identity\, visibility\, and inclusion shape the realities of dementia care and support. \nThe session will examine progress made within the field\, highlight ongoing gaps in knowledge and practice\, and consider how researchers\, practitioners\, and policy makers can better address the needs of LGBTQ+ communities affected by dementia. \nDáithí is a dementia researcher\, advocate\, and educator based in Belgium. DESCRIPTION:The 2026 Harden Conference on ‘Endosomal-lysosomal Network Dysfunction in Neurodegeneration’ will be the first focused UK based conference bringing together world-leading researchers in endosomal-lysosomal biology and neurodegenerative research. \nAlterations in the endosomal-lysosomal system are emerging as key features underlying pathogenesis in several neurodegenerative and neurological disorders\, and has generated significant interest as to whether this pathway can be targeted for early-stage diagnostics and therapeutics. \nThis meeting aims to generate new insight into the latest advances in the endosomal-lysosomal system to enhance the rate of discovery in neurodegenerative research. DESCRIPTION:Join us for a three-day\, in-person course on Mendelian randomisation at University College London from 15th-17th September 2026. \nRunning for the third year\, this course introduces some of the theory and most widely used tools for MR\, and how to apply these methods to real research questions. The course will cover one-sample and two-sample approaches\, sensitivity analyses including pleiotropy-robust methods\, multivariable MR for mediation and interaction analyses\, within-family MR\, MR-PheWAS and drug target MR. Initiated by the collective vision of Gaël Chételat\, Julie Gonneaud\, and Robin de Flores from the Inserm Neuropresage Lab (Caen\, France)\, and co-founded by the Fondation Alzheimer\, EU-MIND was born from the need to build a more connected\, visible\, and well-defined European research community in this specialized field. \nThe first edition took place in Caen\, France\, in September 2024\, and was a great success\, bringing together researchers\, clinicians\, and early-career scientists from across Europe. EU-MIND emerged organically as the response to this imperative\, paving the way towards a more interconnected and impactful European research landscape in neuroimaging of neurodegenerative diseases. \nWhat is the role of the Fondation Alzheimer ?\nThe Fondation Alzheimer is a private funding organization dedicated to supporting Alzheimer’s research\, innovation\, and prevention efforts at the national\, European\, and international levels. One of its primary objectives is to address gaps in high-priority research areas. \nGiven that neuroimaging in neurodegenerative diseases offers significant advancements in understanding pathophysiology\, diagnosing\, and treating Alzheimer’s disease\, the Fondation Alzheimer plays a pivotal role in shaping in the EU-MIND initiative. \nThe foundation actively contributes its expertise by participating in strategic vision and serving on the Scientific Committee. Moreover\, it provides substantial financial support to cover conference expenses\, travel grants\, and other necessities. \nThe Fondation Alzheimer takes pride in being an early founder of EU-MIND\, ensuring its sustainability\, attractiveness\, and excellence. \n\nABSTRACT SUBMISSION AND TRAVEL AWARDS\n\nWe are inviting abstract submissions for symposium and/or poster presentations at EU-MIND 2026\, focusing on neuroimaging of Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias. \nWe seek original\, ongoing works and preliminary results. New findings are preferred\, but we also welcome updates to prior works or those presented elsewhere before EU-MIND. Abstracts should not be published as a journal article prior to the conference. \nIf you submit an abstract\, you can apply for a travel award (see below). \nWhen submitting your abstract\, please consider: \nSymposium\nTo be eligible for an oral presentation (~15 min) in a symposium\, your work must be within the following topics: \n\nThe role of sleep in neurodegenerative disorders\n Artificial intelligence and machine learning\nTherapeutic interventions and neuroimaging\nImaging Methods\nNon-Alzheimer’s disease /polypathology\nOmics & connectomics\n\nThe selection will be based on the abstract review scores. \nPoster\nThe selection will be based on the abstract review scores. In addition\, you have the option to be considered for the poster award competition. Poster rating will occur during the conference poster sessions. \nYou may also opt to be considered for a Datablitz presentation (a ~3 min oral “teaser” to highlight your poster). Selection will be based on abstract review scores. DESCRIPTION:Join the 36th Alzheimer Europe Conference in Dublin! We are delighted to invite you to submit abstracts for the upcoming 36th Alzheimer Europe Conference (#36AEC)\, which will take place in Dublin\, Ireland\, under the banner “Sláinte: Building momentum in dementia through policy\, research and partnership”. \nThe conference will take place between 27 and 29 October 2026 at the Conference Centre Dublin. \nCall for abstracts now open!\nAlzheimer Europe and the Alzheimer Society of Ireland are calling for abstracts for oral and poster presentations. \nThe call for abstracts will close on 30 April 2026. \nBursary for early stage researchers\nThe Alzheimer Europe Foundation is collaborating with the INTERDEM Academy to award ten bursaries of EUR 1\,000 for early stage researchers wishing to attend and present at the Alzheimer Europe Conference. DESCRIPTION:The International Symposium is the biggest annual conference dedicated to ALS and MND research. Each year we bring together researchers from around the world to share new understanding of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis and motor neurone disease. \nThis year’s event will take place in Amsterdam\, the Netherlands on 9-11 December 2026. \nAbstract submission and registration are open. \n\n\n\n\n\nThe key to defeating MND lies in fostering strong collaboration between leading researchers around the world\, and sharing new understanding of the disease as rapidly as possible. This was the MND Association’s rationale behind the creation of the International Symposium on ALS/MND. \nEach year\, the Symposium attracts over 1\,000 delegates\, representing the energy and dynamism of the global MND research community. The groundbreaking series of Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s Diseases Conferences attract international medical and scientific professionals worldwide. \nThe Conference remains at the forefront of unraveling the mechanisms and improving the treatment of Alzheimer’s\, Parkinson’s\, and other related neurodegenerative diseases.
