SUMMARY:Research Showcase - Mapping Brain Pathology with Postmortem Imaging
DESCRIPTION:What can studying the brain after death reveal that conventional brain scans cannot? And could connecting highly detailed imaging directly with neuropathology help us develop better biomarkers for dementia? \nThis livestream is part of the Dementia Researcher weekly Showcase series. Each week we host a 45 minute online session bringing researchers together to share their work\, methods\, and ideas. \nIn this session\, Dr Pulkit Khandelwal will present his research using high-resolution multimodal postmortem imaging to investigate structural changes across Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias. His work uses ultra-high-resolution MRI of human brain tissue alongside computational methods to examine features including cortical thickness\, regional brain volume\, and structural change. \nBy linking these imaging measurements directly with neuropathological markers including tau\, TDP-43\, α-synuclein\, neuronal loss\, and gliosis\, Pulkit’s research aims to identify structural signatures associated with specific disease processes. This approach could help bridge the gap between conventional neuroimaging and gold-standard histopathology and support the development of more precise imaging biomarkers. \nPulkit is a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at Harvard Medical School and Massachusetts General Hospital. His research combines neuroimaging\, neuropathology\, and computational image analysis to better understand structural changes across Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias. \nAttendees can expect a practical and research focused session with time for questions and discussion. \n\nRegister
