Early Career Researchers grants

Up to £5k is available to support individual ECRs in specific studies and/or professional development. If you are a junior scientist or analyst working on dementia research in which you are using, or proposing to use, DPUK resources (eg the Data Portal) you are welcome to apply for an ECR grant. We aim to support you where you decide you need it most and this could include:

  • your pilot studies
  • a visit to a lab to enhance your research skills (please note: we do not fund conference travel)
  • specific hardware or software you require
  • research equipment purchase or hire
  • technical support
  • training courses.

Raise your profile

ECR grant winners will also benefit from opportunities to raise their profile in the dementia research sector. Recipients will be offered opportunities to speak at DPUK events and publish through DPUK channels.

Grants are awarded on the basis of merit and assessed by a small, experienced panel committed to enhancing opportunities for scientists early in their career. There is no deadline for applications but awards need to be completed by 30 June 2019. We will acknowledge receipt of all applications for ECR grants and will aim to provide a decision within four weeks of submission (noting that if submitted around public holidays this may be more difficult). It is important that applications which are time sensitive (eg for attendance at a training course) are submitted sufficiently far in advance to account for the time needed to make a decision.

Applying for an ECR grant is simple and all you have to do is send the information detailed below to DPUK:

1)    an up to date CV with publication list;

2)    details of your project (if applicable) or the intention of your funding request.  Please ensure that you detail which DPUK resource you will be using, why it would be of interest to DPUK to support the request, together with how it will enhance your career development and

3)    the budget requested (up to £5K) with a breakdown of the costs.
