IBRO Rising Stars Awards

The award supports the research needs of early career faculty from diverse and/or underrepresented backgrounds (e.g. racial/ethnic minorities, those with disabilities) who do not have substantial start-up funds or grant support from other agencies.

This grant is open to applicants from all IBRO regions (Asia/Pacific*, Africa*, Latin-America*, Pan-Europe and US/Canada)

  • Applicants who can use IBRO funding to leverage matching funds from other sources will be viewed favourably.
  • At least one letter of reference and a letter of support from the applicant’s head of department are required. The applicant’s university must agree that no indirect or overhead costs will be charged.
  • Funds cannot be used for travel or conference-related expenses.
  • A grant report must be submitted to the IBRO Secretariat 12 months after receiving the funds.

*Preference will be given to applicants who have developed a successful career in a high/upper- middle income country and have taken up academic positions in their home country. The Rising Stars Awards replaces what was previously known as the Return Home Fellowships.
