PhD Studentship – Dementia research

NIHR Applied Research Collaboration East Midlands ARC LogoNIHR ARC East Midlands is pleased to announce an open, competitive call for a PhD studentship in dementia research.

NIHR ARC East Midlands is an applied research centre working across the East Midlands. Our research aims to improve outcomes for patients and the public and to increase the efficiency, quality, accessibility and sustainability of health and care services.

The proposed PhD should be for applied research, and focus on either Young Onset Dementia, Access to Care and/or Technology. It should complement the ARC’s existing portfolio of applied Dementia research and ideally, address our local (5) Integrated Care System’s research priorities.

It is recommended that you contact the ARC’s Academic Career Development Lead, Dr Emma Rowley, to discuss your ideas prior to submitting your application, as the ARC does not support all areas of applied health and social care research.

Successful applicants will be required to study for their PhD at one of the East Midlands’ eight universities (Nottingham, Nottingham Trent, Leicester, de Montfort, Lincoln, Derby, Northampton or Loughborough).

Studentships will be offered at standard UKR&I studentship for Home (UK) students. We expect this to be approximately £19,500 per annum (stipend) and £4,950 per annum (university fees), plus up to £3,000 (total) for research costs.

International students may apply, but will need to provide written evidence on how the shortfall in funding will be covered at the time of application (and cannot be by using the stipend). Awards will be made for 3 years (full time registration) or 6 years (part time status).

One award is available, to commence in Autumn 2024.

How to apply

Applications (see link below) should be emailed to ARC-EM-training@nottingham.ac.uk by 23.59pm on 21/04/24. Applications received after this will not be accepted.

Shortlisted applicants will be invited to an interview held on 16th (afternoon) 17th (morning) May 2024 (TBC if to be held via Microsoft Teams or in-person).

For further information, please refer to the application form and our FAQs, and then email Emma.Rowley@nottingham.ac.uk.
