The ISTAART Neuropsychiatric Syndromes PIA is pleased to announce the launch of a Special Interest Group (SIG) titled Multiomics. This SIG has evolved from a Work Group (WG) that launched in 2023. We invite interested ISTAART members to participate.
About this new Special Interest Group
Multiomics represents new frontiers in the field of Alzheimer’s Disease and Alzheimer’s Disease Related Dementias (AD/ADRD) research, diagnostics and therapeutics. The discipline of multiomics is cross-cutting and of interest to different areas related to the study of AD/ADRD and other neurodegenrative disorders. There are multiple complex levels of data underpinning genetic causal effects, including the genome sequence, the epigenome, the transcriptome and the proteome. The utility of multiomics spans across basic, translational and clinical studies and has a pivotal role in advancing our mechanistic understanding of AD/ADRD as well as precision medicine drug discovery.
As a WG, the group was successful in getting Featured Research Sessions accepted at AAIC 2024 and 2025 as well as publishing a 2025 perspective paper (Leveraging multiomic approaches to elucidate mechanisms of heterogeneity in Alzheimer’s disease: neuropsychiatric symptoms, co-pathologies, and sex differences) in Alzheimer’s and Dementia.
What will this SIG do?
The Multiomics SIG will bring together basic, translational and clinical investigators and empower them to work collaboratively on multiomics approaches in bench-to-bedside studies of AD/ADRDs.
- Connect ISTAART clinical and multiomics experts to promote the exploration of the clinical and neuropathological heterogeneity of AD/ADRDs using multiomic approaches, and translate those discoveries into novel therapeutics strategies.
- Develop and advance research and clinical applications of multiomics technologies and analytical pipelines and share these across the wider scientific community.
- Develop and submit new Featured Research Sessions for consideration at the Alzheimer’s Association International Conference (AAIC).
This group will be co-chaired by Drs. Ornit Chiba-Falek and Byron Creese.
This SIG’s launch meeting is set for Wednesday, March 11, 2026 at 11:05 a.m. C.T.
How do I get involved?
Interested members are invited to join this SIG. Please register your interest here (select the Neuropsychiatric Syndromes PIA and then select the Multiomics SIG). Even if you are unable to attend the initial call, registering your interest will ensure you are included in follow-up information and future SIG invitations.
