The Institute of Epidemiology and Social Medicine at the University of Münster is offering a position as a Postdoc (bio-) Statistician / Mathematician / Bioinformatician.

Full-time
Salary according to TV-L E13

We are seeking a (bio-)statistician/mathematician/bioinformatician to work in multinational, large-scale “-omics” projects aiming to identify molecular biomarkers predicting risk for brain diseases (such as Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s disease, and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis). To this end, you will analyze genome (Illumina’s GSA array), genome-wide methylome (Illumina’s EPIC array), proteome (SomaScan), and transcriptome (RNA-Seq) data that have all been generated in the same ~6,000 individuals of the European Prospective Investigation on Cancer and Nutrition (EPIC) Study. You will implement and develop state-of-the-art scientific and statistical analysis techniques, in particular those based on machine learning, to develop integrated, multi-omics disease prediction and classification scores, and make use of the unique data resources available to our institute.

What we offer:

  • A dynamic work environment with flexible working hours in which you may work in a self-dependent, autonomous way
  • Work on competitive, international “big data” omics projects applying state-of-the-art scientific, statistical, predictive, and data integration techniques
  • Possibility to develop and pursue your own scientific ideas
  • A motivated multidisciplinary international team that helps and supports you in your tasks
  • The possibility to obtain a Ph.D. (i.e., Dr. rer. nat. or Dr. rer. medic.) degree or habilitation
  • Support for your academic career

Your profile:

  • Master’s degree (or higher) in (bio-)statistics, mathematics, bioinformatics, or degree in related fields
  • Proficiency in R
  • Experience working within a UNIX/Linux environment
  • Strong background in bioinformatics and biostatistics, including analysis of high-throughput data in at least one omics area (genomics, epigenomics, transcriptomics, or proteomics)
  • Skills in at least one area of expertise of statistical methodology including survival analysis, statistical genetics, and/or machine learning
  • Strong writing and analytical skills
  • Excellent communication and team skills and fluency in both spoken and written English

If you have any questions about the position, please contact Prof. Dr. Christina Lill, T +49 (0)251 83-57101.

We are looking forward to receiving your application via our application form until 13.03.2024.
