SUMMARY:Open Data Fortnight: Unlocking Research Potential Through Open Data
DESCRIPTION:Liverpool John Moores University opens its Open Data Fortnight 2026 on Monday 2 November with a hybrid session on how openly available data can unlock research potential\, featuring dementia researcher Dr Davide Bruno. You can join in person at LJMU’s City Campus or online. \nThe opening session is a showcase of LJMU’s commitment to open data\, open research and research integrity. It is aimed at everyone\, whether you are new to open practices or already a seasoned advocate\, and is designed to inspire and connect researchers across disciplines. \nAlzheimer’s research without a big clinical dataset\nThe headline talk comes from Dr Davide Bruno\, who will share how openly available research data has let him carry out impactful Alzheimer’s disease research without access to large clinical research groups or hospital-based datasets. By making use of established open research databases\, he has been able to tap into valuable data resources\, develop new research questions and contribute to our understanding of dementia\, while significantly reducing the costs and barriers that usually come with collecting your own data. \nThat makes it a useful hour for any early career researcher who doesn’t have a cohort of their own. If data collection has worn you down\, you will recognise the exhausting reality of data collection\, and for the bigger picture on why sharing pays off\, read selfish reasons for open science. Before you dive into a shared dataset\, it is also worth knowing about dataset decay and the problem of sequential analyses on open datasets. \nDate\, time and venue\n\nDate: Monday 2 November 2026\nTime: 11am to 12pm UK time\nIn person: Training Room 3\, City Campus Library\, Liverpool John Moores University\nOnline: the session is also available to join remotely\n\nRegistration\nPlaces are booked through LJMU’s events system using the button below. \nMonday 2 November 2026\, 11am to 12pm UK time\, in person and online. \n\nRegister
