SUMMARY:An Introduction to FTD Neuropathology
DESCRIPTION:What does frontotemporal dementia look like at the level of the brain tissue itself? In the next ON-FIRE Conversations webinar\, Professor Tammaryn Lashley from University College London gives an introduction to the neuropathology of FTD. \nFrontotemporal dementia is a family of conditions that change behaviour\, language and movement\, and it often affects people at a younger age than other dementias. Underneath that clinical variety sits a range of different protein pathologies\, and understanding them is key both to diagnosis and to developing treatments. Professor Tammaryn Lashley uses post-mortem brain tissue to study FTD and other neurodegenerative diseases\, and this session will offer insights relevant to both clinical and research settings. \nIf you are new to the field\, Dr Kamar Ameen-Ali’s blog on what neuropathology can tell us about the brain diseases which lead to dementia is a good primer. You can also get to know Tammaryn a little better in her Balancing Act interview. \nAbout ON-FIRE\nThe ON-FIRE Conversations Series is run by the Open Network for Frontotemporal dementia Inflammation REsearch (ON-FIRE) study\, led by Dr Maura Malpetti at the University of Cambridge. Funded by Race Against Dementia\, the study is collecting blood samples and clinical data from people with FTD at sites across the UK to find the best ways to measure inflammation in the disease. Hear more about FTD research in our ISTAART Relay podcast with Maura. \nThe webinar is open to everyone\, not just ON-FIRE collaborators. \nTuesday 17 November 2026\, 3pm to 4pm UK time\, online via Zoom. Register in advance using the button below. \n\nRegister
