Tell us a little about yourself:

I spent almost a decade working in the older adult care sector in Scotland. I did my undergraduate and Masters Degrees whilst working and started to build my interests and experience in dementia research. I flew down from Scotland to Brighton for the interview for my PhD and fell in love with Brighton straight away, so thankfully I was offered the position, and I haven’t left since! My PhD explored how to implement routine measurement of quality of life in care homes. I am carrying on this work currently and hope to do a great deal more care home research in the coming years.

Tell us a fun fact about yourself:

I love solo cycling and challenging myself to cycle long distances and do big climbs (I once climbed the cumulative elevation of Mount Everest, 8,848 metres). I am currently learning Italian and have an impressive streak on Duolingo.

Why did you choose to work in dementia?

After working in the care sector for so many years, with people with and without dementia, and developing an interest in research I decided that dementia research was my ideal future  as it combines my interests and experiences in dementia with the inquisitiveness that comes with research, which I love.
