Currently I am employed by the NHS; my academic clinical fellow post as a core psychiatry trainee was funded by the NIHR
Tell us a little about yourself:
I had my first taste of dementia research as a medical student and subsequently held an academic clinical fellow post in Old Age Psychiatry during my core training. I completed a project looking at the role of inflammation in mild cognitive impairment. I am now working clinically in an Old Age Psychiatry training programme and use my ‘special interest’ sessions to work at the Memory Assessment and Research centre in Southampton, where I am a sub investigator on dementia clinical trials and soon to take on my first principal investigator role. I am one of the ‘early career researcher’ representatives to the NIHR National Specialty Group for I have recently applied for a PhD fellowship in dementia research. I have two young children and work less than full time; I am keen to show others that it is possible to get involved in clinical research as a less than full-timer!

I am the proud owner of a Blue Peter badge for singing in a choir at the Blue Peter proms as a child
Why did you choose to work in dementia?
As a medical student, I witnessed my grandmother deteriorate cognitively with dementia, and how this affected my family. She inspired me try to do something to understand and treat dementia better.
