Why did you choose to work in dementia?

My first experience of dementia was with a family friend who had a rarer form of dementia called FTD, which primarily affected her behaviour and personality in her 50s. I was confused at first as I thought dementia was mainly about memory and happened to people much older, but became interested as I learned that dementia could be related to difficulty with any number of aspects of cognition. Despite my hope that one day there will be a disease-modifying treatment, I am passionate about research which helps people who already live with the condition.
