Tell us a little about yourself:
I am French/Japanese and have been living in London for nearly 4 years, since the start of my studies. I started with a Bsc in Neuroscience at King’s College London, barely knowing what Neuroscience actually was. Throughout my degree, I progressively developed a strong interest in dementia and Alzheimer’s disease in particular, and have since conducted research on different aspects of the disease, as part of my studies. The MSc in Dementia [2] (Neuroscience) at University College London seemed like the apparent next step. I am hoping to pursue my academic journey with a PhD to investigate the pathological mechanisms underlying Alzheimer’s disease in the future.
Tell us a fun fact about yourself:
I have had a now 86 year-old pen-friend for over 13 years.
Why did you choose to work in dementia?
In the second year of my Bsc, I started volunteering in the geriatric ward of a hospital in London. Sadly, many of the elderly patients suffered from dementia, and I witnessed the reality of this devastating syndrome. I realized I was far too emotional/sensitive to pursue a career involving direct patient contact, but wished to contribute to deepening our understanding of these diseases.
