Dr Danielle Newby

Name:

Dr Danielle Newby

Job title:

Post-doctoral researcher

Place of work / study:

Department of Psychiatry, University of Oxford

Area of Research:

Dementia Prevention, Drug repurposing [1], Real World Data

How is your work funded?

Industry, charity and research grants through my principal investigator Associate Professor Alejo Nevado-Holgado

Tell us a little about yourself:

Based in Oxford with my husband, daughter and cat, I am an early career researcher with a multi-disciplinary background in epidemiology, pharmacology and machine learning. I am trying to find any drugs that could be used to prevent dementia only using data that is already available. I spend most of my days thinking about the best way to analyse data, carrying out data analysis and cursing at my computer when I cannot get my data analysis code to work.

Tell us a fun fact about yourself:

I’m scared of turkeys (yes really)

Why did you choose to work in dementia?

I wanted to utilise my skills in an area that now really needs a multi-disciplinary approach to push forward in understanding the disease and identifying preventive and disease modifying treatments. It is really important to me that we bring knowledge from other areas to make advances in the dementia field.
