Dr Stephen Hall

Job Title:

Postdoctoral Researcher in Neuroscience

Place of work / study:

University of York

Area of Research:

Epilepsy… with a change across to Alzheimer’s disease imminent. I use electrophysiological and immunohistochemical techniques to examine the mechanisms underlying seizure activity

Tell us a little about yourself:

I’m a Yorkshireman who studied for my undergrad (Pharmacology) and postgrad degrees in Newcastle. I’ve been a postdoc for Miles Whittington for 6 years now and am married with 2 boys, 1 is 5, the other 2.

Tell us a fun fact about yourself:

I’m an avid podcast listener; I drive 25 hours a week to get to work, so listen to 20-30 podcasts in that time. Favourites include Adam Buxton and The Horne Section podcasts, but I will add Dementia Researcher to the list!

Why did you choose to work in dementia?

I watched my Gran progress with Alzheimer’s over the space of 3 years and the impact it had upon my family, particularly my mum, was awful. My gran in-law (our Margs!) also suffered Alzheimer’s for 14 years prior to her death just before Christmas last year. The impact of the disease on both families and on my grans has led to my desire to move into dementia research.
