Tell us a little about yourself:

Following completion of the 5 year MPharm course at the University of Bradford, which included six month placements at Boots and Leeds Teaching Hospital Trust, Suzanne qualified as a Pharmacist in 2006. Upon graduation she worked in community for Alliance Pharmacy initially, and then moved to regular locum work to learn more about the service offered by other community pharmacies. In 2007, Suzanne moved to work as Prescribing Support Pharmacist at NHS Kirklees. In this role, she was able to get experience of working in many GP practices spread across a large geographical area, covering a range of patient demographics. She enjoyed working, sharing knowledge with and learning from members of the multidisciplinary team working within the practices. Whilst working at the PCT Suzanne gained her Postgraduate Diploma in Medicines Management at the University of Leeds and her Independent Prescribing qualification at the University of Bradford. Having always had an interest in academia, she started to work at the University, alongside her PCT role as a Teacher Practitioner. In 2013, she left the PCT and secured a number of teaching contracts as lecturer/senior lecturer posts and co-led the Consultation Skills Module in 2014/15. Alongside teaching she managed to secure funding from PRUK to undertake a Masters in Research Methods, which she completed in 2014. Suzanne had maternity leave with her 3rd child and returned to work, having successfully securing a part-time PhD Studentship, as part of the Alzheimers Society funded, Doctoral Training Centre at the University of Bradford. In 2006 she became a Clinical Teacher within the School of Pharmacy, running GP practice-based Medication Safety sessions for final year pharmacy and final year medical students.

Tell us a fun fact about yourself:

I’m not sure if this is fun….more random!! But during one of my maternity leaves I decided to become an ECB accredited umpire?! I also love to spend my free-time with my family, exploring the outdoors; playing sport; going to the theatre, museums…. I also love to travel and have visited many European destinations, as well as spending a month travelling down the East coast of Australia.

Why did you choose to work in dementia?

I had always had a professional interest in neurology and a personal interest in dementia, as my Grandma lived with Alzheimer’s disease for many years, supported and cared for by my Grandad.
