SUMMARY:Metascience 2027
DESCRIPTION:Metascience 2027 brings researchers\, policymakers\, funders\, publishers and innovators to Montréal from 14 to 16 June 2027 to look hard at how science works\, and whether the reforms meant to improve it are actually delivering. \nMetascience is the study of research itself: how it’s funded\, done\, published\, assessed and rewarded. This year’s main theme is “Research Reform in an Era of Rapid Change: What Works\, For Whom\, and How?” The conference will ask whether changes to funding\, evaluation\, research policy and institutional models achieve what they set out to\, and whether we can even measure that well enough to know. \nSub-themes include: \n\nAssessing open science: the real benefits\, challenges and unintended consequences of open science reforms\nEvaluating AI use in research: the promise\, pitfalls and real-world effects of generative AI across research design\, conduct\, communication and evaluation\nDiversity\, equity and inclusion in the research ecosystem\, including linguistic and cultural diversity in scholarly communication\nIndigenous and traditional knowledge systems\nResearch assessment and institutional reforms: peer review\, and how researchers are evaluated\, funded\, supported and rewarded\nCapacity building for metascience and evidence-informed reform\nResearch methods\, measurement and standards\, including reproducibility\, replication and research quality\n\nIf you care about research culture\, how researchers are assessed or how AI is changing the way we work\, this is a chance to hear the evidence and help shape where research reform goes next. \nThe conference is hosted by the Center for Open Science and the Tanenbaum Open Science Institute at The Neuro (McGill University)\, and takes place at the Centre Mont-Royal in downtown Montréal. \nCall for abstracts\nThe call for presentation proposals is open until 4 December 2026 (11:59pm EST). Submit a proposal. \nRegistration hasn’t opened yet. You can sign up for updates so you don’t miss the early bird rate. \nFind out more
