SUMMARY:Research Showcase - Music\, Mathematics and the Ageing Brain
DESCRIPTION:What can music tell us about how the brain adapts to ageing and neurodegeneration. And how can mathematics help us understand those changes. \nThis livestream is part of the Dementia Researcher weekly Showcase series. Each week we host a 45 minute online session bringing researchers together to share their work\, methods\, and ideas. \nIn this session\, Dr Sarah Faber will introduce her work as a computational neuroscientist exploring how the brain adapts to ageing and neurodegeneration. Using music as a core investigative tool alongside advanced mathematical and modelling approaches\, her research examines how brain networks reorganise in response to change. \nDrawing on her multidisciplinary background in neuroscience\, music\, and quantitative methods\, Sarah will discuss how computational neuroscience can reveal patterns of adaptation in the ageing brain\, and what music based paradigms can teach us about resilience and vulnerability. \nAttendees can expect an engaging research focused talk with time for questions and discussion. \n\nRegister

SUMMARY:DSAD - ASAD Conference
DESCRIPTION:This is the third edition of this groundbreaking conference\, which aims to foster collaboration and knowledge exchange between the fields of Down Syndrome associated Alzheimer disease (DSAD) and autosomal dominant AD (ADAD). \nThe event will feature research findings\, clinical trials\, and more\, with an inclusive approach to diversity\, representation\, and accessibility. \n\n\n\n\nThis conference will be a seminal event in advancing the understanding and treatment of Alzheimer’s disease (AD)\, particularly by bridging the fields of Down Syndrome Alzheimer’s disease (DSAD) and Autosomal Dominant Alzheimer’s disease (ADAD). It emphasizes collaboration\, ethical considerations\, and inclusivity\, fostering a unified approach to tackling both conditions. \nA key focus of the conference will be creating lasting networks and collaborations\, ensuring that the dialogue and progress continue well beyond the event itself. Building on the success of the previous conferences\, which attracted close to 200 in-person attendees and many more online from over 20 countries\, this third conference aims to expand on that momentum. In addition to the strong support from the DSAD research community\, we have renowned international ADAD speakers\, with outreach through the DIAN network. The event will promote cross-fertilization of ideas\, highlighting the potential for shared insights between these genetically determined forms of AD. This is particularly timely as we now have several ongoing drug development projects in both DSAD and ADAD\, with more planned. The exchange of ideas between researchers in these areas is crucial for maximizing the impact of therapeutic strategies. \nIn conclusion\, the conference will cultivate a collaborative\, diverse\, and inclusive environment to advance research in DSAD and ADAD. The collective expertise of the organizing and scientific committee\, combined with support from key stakeholders in Alzheimer’s research\, will ensure a successful and impactful event. This gathering represents a significant step forward in global AD research\, providing a dynamic platform that fosters connections\, innovation\, and progress in understanding and treating these intertwined conditions. \nAttendees\, Inclusivity & Collaboration Strategy to promote Diversity\, Equity\, and Inclusion: \n\nIntended Audience: Targeting a diverse group of students\, researchers\, clinicians\, experts\, policy-makers\, and other stakeholders interested in genetically determined AD.\nSelection Process & Inclusivity: Striving for a balanced and diverse program\, selecting top communications from a wide range of contributors.\nGender Balance & Ethnic and Geographical Diversity: Aiming for balanced representation of gender among speakers\, moderators\, and attendees. Actively promoting participation from various ethnic backgrounds and geographical regions.\nEarly and Senior Researchers: Ensuring a mix of early-career and senior researchers in all sessions.\nSupport for Attendees with Families: Provision of daycare services to support those with childcare responsibilities and enable their attendance.\n\nFind out More

SUMMARY:Innovation Forum: Place-based health and wellness
DESCRIPTION:This year we’re inviting you to roll-up your sleeves and help us define a place-based approach to healthy ageing. \n\n\n\n\nLast year our first ever Healthy Ageing & Care Innovation Forum brought together pioneers from industry\, academia\, care\, and community sectors to re-examine how we understand healthy ageing\, identity and social connection. This year\, we’re raising the ambition. \nWe’re inviting leading thinkers\, creators\, and partners from across the health tech\, built environment\, and innovation ecosystems to help shape the future of one of the most exciting living labs for healthy ageing in the UK\, situated within The Chocolate Quarter; already a flagship model of intergenerational\, open retirement living. \nOur goal is to explore how we can combine people\, place\, nature\, technology\, and data to prototype new models of healthy ageing and care innovation that can scale regionally\, nationally and globally. \nTogether\, we’ll investigate: \n\nHow people of all ages move through and use these spaces; and how design\, technology and community activation can promote healthier choices and more connected lives\, whilst respecting people’s individual choices.\nThe role of emerging technologies\, smart environments\, and data-driven insights in improving well-being\, resilience and independence.\nHow we create environments that support people living with dementia\, frailty or long-term conditions\, while celebrating movement\, purpose and contribution.\nWhat Somerdale Pavilion\, The Chocolate Quarter and St Monica Trust itself could become over the next 5\, 10\, 15 years; and what interventions\, partnerships and prototypes we should initiate now.\n\nThis is an opportunity to help shape a real world test bed for healthy ageing and care innovation\, rooted in the community but connected to cutting edge research\, innovation and industry. \n\n\n\n\nTake a look at what we got up to at our Innovation Forum last March. \n\n\n\n\n\n\nAgenda\n\n\n\n09:30 AM – 10:00 AM \nWelcome and sign in\nWelcome to our innovation forum 2026. Please sign in on arrival\, settle in and help yourself to refreshments \n\n\n10:00 AM – 10:20 AM \nOpening Remarks\nOpening remarks from David Williams\, CEO of St Monica Trust\, Paul Tisdale\, Director of Villages and Sara Naylor-Wild\, Director of Care \n\n\n10:30 AM – 11:15 AM \nPanel: Integrating Care Into the Wider Research & Innovation Ecosystem\nPanel discussion featuring contributions from: Health Innovation West — regional innovation pipelines and adoption/scale-up pathways. SUMMARY:Research Showcase - Dementia & Employment Research Priorities
DESCRIPTION:What support do people living with dementia need to remain in work. How can employers\, policy makers\, researchers\, and carers work together to shape better employment support.\n\nThis livestream is part of the Dementia Researcher weekly Showcase series. Each week we host a 45 minute online session bringing researchers together to share their work\, methods\, and ideas. \nIn this session\, Dr Rachel Allen from the University of West of Scotland present current work from the Working with Dementia Network + project\, which explores dementia and employment across research\, policy\, and practice. The project has recently completed a series of Nominal Group Technique focus groups designed to identify priorities for future work in this area. \nThese groups brought together people living with a dementia diagnosis\, carers\, employers and managers\, professionals involved in policy\, and researchers. Rachel will discuss why this approach was used\, what participants identified as key priorities\, and how these findings will shape the next phase of the Network Plus programme. \nAttendees can expect a research focused session with time for questions and discussion. \n\nRegister
