YoungAcademics – Engaging medical students in clinical research

Reading Time: < 1 minute

YoungAcademics is a novel student initiative founded and piloted through King’s College London Clinical Specialties Society (KCLCSS). YoungAcademics is a platform for medical students to get involved in research projects in the clinical specialty of their choice, with a high chance of named authorship on poster/oral presentations and/or publications, provided they are committed to the projects.

The service aims to engage medical students in clinical research at an early undergraduate level, preparing them with the skills and experience to enhance their portfolios and encourage involvement in academic medicine. In addition to a support toolking, the website offers a research matching service:

Medical Students – Find research projects to get involved in.

Research Supervisors – Find medical students to support your research.

Before using YoungAcademics, I was really struggling to get involved in Ophthalmology research projects. After filling out a short application form, I’m now working on a research project with a Professor from one of the best hospitals in London. I would definitely recommend YoungAcademics to anyone looking to building their academic portfolio! Ahmer, Medical Student, King’s College London
