As an Alzheimer’s Society UKDTN Research Nurse working in the only Mental Health CRF in the UK, you would be part of our friendly,
multidisciplinary team, offering our research participants exceptional care throughout their study journey.
Working within a newly formed team funded by the UK Dementia Trials Network (UKDTN) and Alzheimer’s Society, the post holder will report directly to the Band 7 Alzheimer’s Society UKDTN Senior Research Nurse at Oxford Health NHS Foundation Trust.
The post holder will support the coordination and delivery of a growing portfolio of early-phase mild cognitive impairment and dementia clinical research studies within the NIHR Clinical Research Facility: Oxford Health and across its regional collaborating organisations.
Please note if you are based outside of the UK you will need to be fully qualified, have already passed your OSCE and have an NMC pin number to be considered for this role.
Core hours 9am to 5pm, Monday to Friday. Based full time on-site at the Warneford Hospital with frequent visits to other sites
Main duties of the job
The primary focus of the Alzheimer’s Society [4] UK Dementia Trials Network (UKDTN) Research Nurse is to support and coordinate the provision of an increasing portfolio of early-phase dementia clinical trials within OH CRF and M&C RDT. The role involves working closely with both teams, the wider R&D services and study sponsors, to deliver a variety of early-phase clinical trials relating to brain health, mild cognitive impairment, Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias.
The post holder will also be responsible for directly managing and supporting patients on early phase dementia clinical trials. This involves the recruitment, education and monitoring of trial patients and the collection and documentation of accurate data (including collection and management of tissue and/or samples) as per study protocols, including drug delivery in partnership with our doctors and pharmacists. It requires in-depth implementation of specific trial protocols in practice, alongside working knowledge of, and compliance with, local, national and international research regulations. The role includes networking with Research Clinics, Memory Clinics, GP surgeries, Oxford University Hospitals, and other potential referral sources, such as acute care, community organisations and third sector groups, as well as participating in service development activities within Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire.

Qualifications – Academic/Skills/Professional
Essential criteria
- Registered Nurse with the NMC (active PIN registration) in Adult or Mental Health Nursing
- Knowledge of current issues within dementia care and research
Knowledge Requirements
Essential criteria
- Up to date and informed about relevant research guidelines and legislation, and knowledgeable about all aspects of research governance at both national and local community health levels
- Well-developed computer skills, including experience using databases
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with participants, carers, colleagues, and external partners.
Desirable criteria
- Knowledge of early-phase clinical trial conduct, IMP and controlled drug management, and participant safety
- Phlebotomy, cannulation and intravenous administration skills
Experience
Essential criteria
- Experience of working in mental health and dementia settings, or equivalent experience in providing care for patients diagnosed with MCI, dementia, or neurodegenerative conditions
- Experience of conducting clinical research across a range of study designs in dementia, mental health, neurodegeneration, or early-phase research.
- Experience of working in a multidisciplinary environment
- Experience of handling confidential data
Desirable criteria
- Experience of completing electronic data entry
