Tell us a little about yourself:

I’m a post-doc researcher with experience in ageing, dementia and end of life care research. I have undertaken research in the community, including specialist housing (ie. Sheltered and extra care) and more recently care/nursing homes and hospital settings. Through the core outcome set study I have built an interest in outcome measurement instruments. Other interests include information-giving in the context of ageing. I’m an advocate of realist methodology.

I’m currently working across a number of studies funded by the ESRC, Alzheimer’s Society, EU Horizon 2020 [1], including two studies on advance care planning.

Tell us a fun fact about yourself:

The midwife was late to my daughter’s birth, so I had to deliver her instead. When I have the time I enjoy craft ale, mixing cocktails and I have a growing collection of pineapple barware.

Why did you choose to work in dementia?

I am struck at how people, systems and the world around us continues to be so inadequate for older people, and particularly people living with dementia. I choose to work in this area in the hope that what I can do, however small, might begin to rebalance things.
