Job Description

The Neurodegenerative Diseases Research Group focuses on defining and understanding biological processes in Alzheimer’s disease and other neurodegenerative diseases. We analyze large data sets collected from patients and cognitively healthy volunteers, who undergo extensive tests with brain imaging, biomarker measurements and neuropsychological tests. Our group uses advanced statistical tools to analyze these unique and state-of-the-art data sets in order to model processes related to aging and disease. As a postdoctoral fellow, you will be part of a growing interdisciplinary team consisting of neuroscientists, statisticians, biologists and engineers, who are committed to increasing the understanding of neurodegenerative diseases. The research group is led by Dr. Jacob Vogel, and the position is located at the Biomedical Center (BMC) in Lund

Tasks and responsibilities

As an assistant researcher, 50% of your working time will be spent on research, while the remaining 50% will consist of laboratory administrative tasks. The research tasks will involve supporting neuroimaging or AI projects (depending on the applicant’s expertise) that are ongoing in the laboratory. This may include data curation, data processing or data analysis. There is also the opportunity to lead an independent project. The laboratory administrative tasks may include supporting processes related to recruitment, purchasing, planning social activities, documentation, supervision, management of digital infrastructure, website administration and/or communication. Other tasks may include: data curation and data processing; development, editing or execution of computational scripts; presentation of data and results at internal and external research meetings; writing of scientific manuscripts; informal supervision and knowledge sharing with other colleagues; and writing of grant applications and/or research grants. Other tasks may also occur.

Qualifications

The following qualifications are required for the position:

  • PhD in neuroscience, engineering, statistics, quantitative biology, physics, mathematics or a related field
  • Very good communication skills in English, both verbally and written.
  • The applicant must be meticulous, detail-oriented and demonstrate strong internal motivation
  • Good organizational and judgment skills combined with the ability to work independently, with a high sense of responsibility and initiative.
  • Competence in computational programming (e.g. in Python, R, bash, etc.)
  • Ability to independently conduct large-scale data analyses
  • Documented research productivity

The following qualifications are desirable:

  • Experience in curation, preprocessing and/or analysis of neuroimaging data
  • Documented experience in deep learning
  • Experience and good knowledge of high-performance cluster-based computing
  • Experience with git and GitHub
  • Knowledge of good practices in reproducible research and open science

Other

The position is a special fixed-term employment (SÄVA) for 12 months with a preliminary start date of 1 September 2026 or as agreed. Scope 100%.
