Centre for Dementia webinar – Establishing the True Prevalence of Dementia and Advancing Equity in Aotearoa New Zealand – the IDEA Programme.

Join the Centre for Dementia for a webinar with Dr Xiaojing (Sharon) Wu, Research Fellow in the School of Population Health at the University of Auckland and a registered dietitian.

Sharon is Programme Manager of the Impact of Dementia mate wareware and solutions for Equity in Aotearoa (IDEA) Programme, a national research initiative working to establish the true prevalence of dementia in Aotearoa New Zealand and improve equity in dementia care.

During this webinar, Sharon will introduce the IDEA Programme and its community-based study involving European, Chinese and Indian populations. She will explain how the research combines population-based epidemiology, comprehensive dementia assessments, health-data linkage and qualitative methods.

The study aims to improve understanding of the prevalence, impact and lived experience of dementia, while also examining the accuracy of routinely collected health data.

Sharon will discuss the challenges and opportunities involved in conducting culturally responsive dementia research with diverse communities and share early insights from the ongoing prevalence study.
