Postdoctoral Fellow at MUSC, Charleston SC. Join Dr Hongkuan Fan’s NIH-funded lab using a new two-photon microscope to study pericytes, neuroinflammation and Alzheimer’s.

A brand-new two-photon microscope is ready to drive discovery—and we’re looking for a highly motivated Postdoctoral Fellow to join our NIH-funded research program at the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC). Our lab investigates the cellular and molecular mechanisms of neurovascular dysfunction and neuroinflammation, with a focus on translating basic discoveries into therapeutic insights.

Our current work centers on the role of pericytes in blood-brain barrier integrity and cerebral blood flow regulation, particularly in the context of Alzheimer’s disease and sepsis. These studies aim to uncover how pericyte-mediated vascular changes contribute to neurodegeneration and cognitive decline.

What We Offer:

  • Access to state-of-the-art facilities, including a new two-photon microscope for high-resolution in vivo imaging
  • A collaborative, interdisciplinary environment in the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine
  • Active, well-funded projects addressing critical gaps in neurovascular research
  • Opportunities to contribute to both basic and translational neuroscience

Key Techniques:

  • In vivo two-photon microscopy
  • Genetically modified mouse models
  • Molecular and cellular biology
  • Small animal surgery

Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. and/or M.D. in neuroscience, immunology, vascular biology, or a related field
  • Strong communication and organizational skills
  • Preferred: Experience with small animal surgery and two-photon imaging
