NIHR ARC NWC offers a funded PhD at LJMU to co design a digital dementia workflow system to reduce admin and support clinical staff.
Dementia services are dealing with rising demand at the same time as workforce shortages and growing administrative load. Clinicians routinely pull information together from several different systems before they can make decisions about assessment and care, and that takes time away from patients.
This PhD will work with clinicians, people with dementia and carers to co-design and evaluate a digital system that brings the information needed for the dementia workflow into one place. The research will test whether that reduces time spent on administration, improves staff wellbeing, and frees up clinical time for patient contact. The findings are intended to help healthcare organisations understand how digital tools can support a sustainable workforce while improving dementia care.

Who this suits
Applicants interested in co-design, digital health and health services research, with an interest in dementia care and the clinical workforce. You’ll need at least a UK Bachelor’s honours degree at 2:1 or equivalent in a relevant discipline, awarded (or formally confirmed) by 1 January 2027, and you must meet LJMU’s doctoral entry requirements.
