We know that people with dementia and their carers face numerous inequalities from diagnosis through to the end of life, and something needs to be done.
We have a new research funding initiative which aims to give people living with dementia a fairer deal throughout their dementia journeys.
Healthcare inequalities report
The Office of Health Economics have released a report on healthcare inequalities and dementia in the UK. The report highlights 110 healthcare inequalities faced by people living with dementia and 28 that specifically affect carers. This ranged from the ability to get a timely diagnosis to the effects of social care funding cuts.
We know something needs to be done to tackle the healthcare inequalities for people living with dementia and their carers. So we are asking research teams to come forward with big, bold ideas which will result in a fairer deal for people living with dementia. We are introducing a research funding initiative to catalyse the implementation of a transformational intervention that will address one or more of these inequalities.
The call will focus on generating vital evidence necessary for the scaling and integration of a diagnosis and post-diagnostic care intervention into UK healthcare systems.
We’re excited to be an active partner in the research project. We want to create a collaborative environment where our services, knowledge, and research efforts work together seamlessly. If you’re chosen for funding, we’ll meet to discuss how we can best support your project.
The application is a two-stage process with an initial expression of interest stage, which must be submitted through our online grants system which you can access below.
Expressions of Interest must be submitted by Friday 6th Sept 2024.
If you do not provide an Expression of Interest by this deadline you will not be eligible to submit a full proposal.
The deadline for full applications will be 7th October 2024.

Eligibility
We only accept applications for research projects that will take place at UK-based universities, NHS sites or other recognised higher research institutions.
Principal investigators should have a contract of employment with the host university that exceeds the planned finish date of the research by at least 12 months.
Healthcare inequalities webinar
For more information, we will be hosting a webinar about the call on the 12th July. The webinar will be hosted by our Director of Research and Influencing, Fiona Carragher, and will cover the importance of health inequalities in our organisational strategy and how this funding call fits into that wider framework.
It will then give more detail on the kinds of applications we are expecting and the funding criteria for the call.
Researchers will also have a chance to ask any questions the might have about the call in a Q&A session as part of the webinar.
