Macquarie University is recruiting a Research Assistant to support a programme of aged care and dementia care research at the Centre for Health Systems and Safety Research in Sydney
The Centre for Health Systems and Safety Research (CHSSR) is one of the core research centres within the Australian Institute of Health Innovation. It examines how health services actually operate, with recognised expertise in the impact of information technologies, electronic health records and decision support on the delivery and safety of care. The centre has around 50 staff and applies methods ranging from randomised controlled trial designs through to direct observation of clinical work.
About the role
Working under general direction and reporting to Associate Professor Nasir Wabe, you will provide research support across a range of CHSSR projects with a primary focus on aged care. The work spans the full research lifecycle, which makes it a useful post for someone early in their research career who wants to build methodological depth alongside a multidisciplinary team of researchers, educators and clinicians. Responsibilities include:
- Conducting literature searches and preparing bibliographies for principal researchers
- Assisting with the conduct of research, primarily in aged care, using a variety of research techniques
- Contributing to ethics applications and grant applications
- Preparing research data, documentation and reports for presentation and publication
- Assisting with data management and analysis, including computational and statistical analysis
- Research administration, including coordinating project meetings
- Liaising with Macquarie research and clinical staff and students, and with researchers at other study sites and with aged care providers and clients
About you
Selection criteria:
- An undergraduate degree in a relevant discipline such as nursing, public health, epidemiology, pharmacy, health sciences or clinical science. A research-focused postgraduate qualification (Honours, MRes, MPH) in a health-related area is desirable
- Demonstrated experience conducting literature reviews, including designing search strategies for online databases such as PubMed. Systematic review and meta-analysis experience is desirable
- Skills in MS Office applications, together with experience assisting with data management and analysis, including computational and statistical analysis
- Sound organisational skills and a high level of attention to detail, with the ability to progress several tasks to deadline
- Effective oral, written and interpersonal communication skills, and the ability to contribute within a multidisciplinary team
- Working knowledge of the Australian health care system, with aged care sector experience desirable
- An understanding of statutory privacy and ethical requirements for research, including experience preparing human research ethics applications
Terms
Full time, fixed term for two years, based at the Wallumattagal Campus in North Ryde. The salary package starts at $88,670 per annum (HEW Level 5), plus 17% employer superannuation and annual leave loading. The post is not available for visa sponsorship, and the successful applicant must hold valid Australian work rights for the full two-year fixed-term contract.
