A postdoctoral post at the Sheffield Institute for Translational Neuroscience, working with Professor Pamela Shaw and Professor Heather Mortiboys on extracellular vesicles as biomarkers and markers of therapeutic response in neurodegenerative disease. Read more about how the MND Association is fighting MND.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Post-Doctoral Research Associate to join us at the Sheffield Institute for Translational Neuroscience (SITraN). SITraN is a purpose-built research facility opened in November 2010 by Her Majesty the Queen and awarded the Queen’s Anniversary prize for higher education in 2020 in recognition of having made an outstanding positive impact on patient’s lives, focusing on neurodegenerative conditions such as motor neuron disease (MND) Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s.

We are seeking an enthusiastic and experienced Research Associate to join an exciting translational research project. The successful candidate will join a dynamic research team under the supervision of Professor Pamela Shaw and Professor Heather Mortiboys. SITraN houses cutting-edge equipment for ECV research. The project will focus on extracellular vesicles (ECVs) including robust isolation from human biofluids and cellular models and analysis of important constituents including proteins, microRNAs and lipids as potential biomarkers of neurodegenerative disorders and evaluation of signals of therapeutic efficacy.

You will conduct laboratory research on a semi-independent basis under the direction of the principal investigators. You will be expected to: design, execute and evaluate experiments; keep excellent experimental records; train and guide junior colleagues, prepare reports regularly and feedback to industrial partners in regular conference calls and written reports. You are also expected to contribute to the preparation of scientific manuscripts, and attend and deliver seminars; locally, nationally, and internationally.

You will have a strong background in the biology of ECVs in the context of neuroscience, molecular and cellular neurobiology. With experience in a range of techniques related to the isolation and characterisation of extracellular vesicles. The candidate should be strongly motivated, self-driven, able to accept direction and be an excellent team player. Good communication, written and interpersonal skills are expected.
