The Orr lab at Weill Cornell Medicine seeks a postdoctoral associate to study astrocytes, cell metabolism and mechanisms of neurodegenerative disease.

The Orr laboratory at Weill Cornell Medicine investigates glial-neuronal interactions and neurodegenerative disorders and is seeking a postdoctoral associate to join their highly collaborative and dynamic team to uncover disease mechanisms and therapeutic strategies for neurodegenerative conditions.

The position focuses on astrocyte receptor function and immunometabolic cascades, including redox signaling mechanisms and mitochondrial-nuclear crosstalk. Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to, conducting molecular, biochemical, and live-cell imaging experiments in cell cultures and mouse models, testing new drug candidates and genetic approaches in mouse models, evaluating functional alterations in neural activities and animal behavior, and mastering cutting-edge techniques to advance research projects.

The position requires strong organizational skills and independent thinking, up-to-date knowledge of relevant literature and emerging technologies, ability to perform rigorous experiments in isolated cells and animal models, presenting and publishing research findings in an effective and timely manner, and training junior personnel.

Preferred candidates will have previous experience in cell metabolism, electrophysiology, multiomic data analyses (lipidomics, metabolomics, and proteomic profiling), and/or human iPSC-derived models. Experience in computational methods and use of innovative methodologies is a plus. Successful candidates will have excellent communication skills, ability to work collaboratively and independently, and a dedication to biomedical research.

You will be responsible for the following:

  • Conducting research projects independently and/or collaboratively with colleagues and following all pertinent Lab, Department, and College policies and procedures.
  • Designing, organizing, and carrying out rigorous experiments using established protocols, and adapting to and designing new protocols.
  • Collecting and analyzing research data, including keeping detailed records of experiments and research data.
  • Compiling results for presentations and using graphics and statistical software to analyze and report data.
  • Participating in manuscript preparation.
  • Assisting the Principal Investigator in applying for fellowships, grants, and other support as requested.
  • Assuming shared responsibility for some scientific operations of the laboratory, including training and supervising students and other laboratory personnel, as necessary.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Recent PhD degree in Neuroscience, Cell Biology, or related fields
  • Demonstrated ability to perform research independently and in a team
  • Excellent oral and written communication and organizational skills

Additional Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in electrophysiological methods in isolated neural cells and brain tissue/in vivo
  • Experience in metabolomic profiling and/or epigenomic methods
  • Demonstrated skills in scientific data processing, computation, and presentation

This is a one-year appointment with potential for annual reappointment contingent upon performance and funding availability.

To apply, please send your CV and cover letter outlining your research experience, accomplishments, and career goals, and three references to Dr. Anna Orr (ago2002@med.cornell.edu).
