Tell us a little about yourself:
30 years in dementia care – carer to social worker to CEO – leading workforce development in dementia care. Founder of 3 Spirit Training Consultancy who has trained over 100,000 carers and developed over 500 different health and social care programmes. Moved to New Zealand a year ago after a long love affair with the country – now working in Aged Residential Care supporting the following workstreams – Care Model, Research, Education and Dementia Design.
Tell us a fun fact about yourself:
I took a year out of work at age 40 and travelled around the world with a baby in my seated rucksack – ended up in New Zealand.
Why did you choose to work in dementia:
It’s a fascinating subject and I’m passionate about improving the lives of people living with dementia.
What single piece of advice would you give to an early career researcher?
To improve the impact of your research start with a question from the industry. Make tools that enable people to embed your research into their daily practice.
What book are you reading right now? Would you recommend it?
