This livestream is part of the Dementia Researcher weekly Showcase series. Each week we host a 45 minute online session bringing researchers together to share their work, methods and ideas.
In this session, Millennium Soibifaa Iyobuchiebomie will present her research exploring figurative language assessment as a potential tool for the early detection of mild cognitive impairment (MCI).
Language-related difficulties can be among the early signs of cognitive change. Millennium’s research investigates whether assessing the way people interpret figurative and non-literal language could reveal subtle changes that may not be captured by more conventional cognitive assessments.
She will discuss the thinking behind this approach, how figurative language can be assessed, and its potential as an accessible and sensitive measure for identifying people experiencing early cognitive change.
Millennium is a PhD student at Sheffield Hallam University with a background in sociology and psychology. Her research interests include mild cognitive impairment, Alzheimer’s disease and dementia, neuropsychology and brain health, with a particular focus on improving early detection and supporting timely intervention.
