An online roundtable from MDPI, held on the day the 2026 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine is announced, on the research the prize recognises and how open access helps breakthrough science reach everyone.

The panel will talk about Nobel-recognised discoveries and their lasting impact on medicine and physiology, the part interdisciplinary research plays in getting to a breakthrough, how open access widens the reach of landmark work, and how accessible science can inspire the next generation of researchers.

Speakers

  • Prof Patricia Schofield, School of Nursing and Midwifery, University of Plymouth, UK
  • Prof Süleyman Ergün, Institute of Anatomy and Cell Biology, University of Würzburg, Germany, and Atlas University Research Center, Istanbul Atlas University, Turkey
  • Prof Jens Coorssen, Institute for Globally Distributed Open Research and Education (IGDORE), Canada
  • Dr Andre van Zundert, Faculty of Medicine, The University of Queensland, Australia

The discussion is not dementia-specific, but it is a chance to hear senior scientists talk about how big discoveries get made and shared. If you are weighing up publishing options yourself, read our piece on making your research open access.

Booking

The roundtable is free, but you need to register through Zoom. It runs from 1pm to 3pm CEST (12 noon to 2pm UK time). Registrations from academic institutional email addresses are prioritised, and people who attend live receive a certificate of attendance. If you can’t make it, register anyway and MDPI will let you know when the recording is available. Full details are on the event website, and questions can go to webinar@mdpi.com.
