From Schizophrenia to Alzheimer’s: Understanding the KarXT Clinical Trials
October 15 @ 6:00 pm - 7:00 pm

A free online session from the BrightFocus Foundation’s Zoom In on Dementia & Alzheimer’s series, with Dr Paul Newhouse explaining how KarXT, a drug first developed for schizophrenia, is being tested in people living with Alzheimer’s disease.
KarXT pairs xanomeline, which acts on muscarinic receptors in the brain, with trospium, which damps down its side effects in the rest of the body. Already approved in the US for schizophrenia, it is now in clinical trials for psychosis in Alzheimer’s disease, a common and distressing symptom with few good treatment options. Dr Newhouse will talk through why the drug is being repurposed, how the trials work and what the results could mean for people with dementia and their families.
The Zoom In series is pitched at a broad audience, with time for live questions to the speaker. For early career researchers it is a useful look at drug repurposing in dementia, and at how trial science is explained to the public.
Booking
The session runs online on Thursday 15 October at 1pm ET (6pm UK time). It is free, but you need to register through the BrightFocus website to get the joining details. Looking for more? Browse other upcoming dementia research events.
