NIHR Predoctoral Fellowship Application Day
October 27 @ 9:15 am - 3:30 pm

The NIHR Research Support Service is running an online Predoctoral Fellowship Application Day to help you develop an application to the NIHR Predoctoral Award. The workshop looks at what you need to include to give yourself the best chance of an award, from picking a good research area and the right supervisory team to designing your career development programme and writing clearly.
The workshop runs online on Tuesday 27 October 2026, from 09:15 to 15:30 UK time, and is delivered through a mix of presentations, exercises and Q&A.
What the day covers
The draft programme includes an introduction to the NIHR Predoctoral Fellowship scheme, talks from successful applicants, and a Q&A with the NIHR coordinating centre, panel members and past award holders. Afternoon sessions cover presenting your research area, doing a literature search to support it, writing a narrative CV, planning your training programme, choosing a host and supervisory team, and working with people and communities. The programme may change before the day.
Who it is for
The workshop is aimed at UK-based healthcare professionals, social care, public health and other local authority practitioners, and people wishing to train as methodologists. Check the NIHR Predoctoral Award page for full eligibility. It is run by the RSS Hub and Specialist Centre for Public Health, delivered by the University of Southampton and partners.
If you are starting to plan an application, our guide to securing your first research fellowship and our podcast on how to create a narrative CV are good preparation.
