Building Digital Maturity in Care Homes - 28th October

How well is technology embedded into everyday life in UK care homes? And what needs to change for digital approaches to genuinely support residents, staff and services?

This livestream is part of the Dementia Researcher weekly Showcase series. Each week we host a 45 minute online session bringing researchers together to share their work, methods and ideas.

In this session, Dr Maria Drummond will present work from Embedding Technology in Care Homes: Progress towards Digital Maturity (ETECH-DM), a 30-month mixed-methods study examining digital maturity in care homes across the UK.

Maria will explore how technology is currently being used in everyday care home life, the barriers and enablers influencing digital development, and how technology could support person-centred care, staff wellbeing and service delivery. Drawing on sociotechnical perspectives, the project will work with the sector to co-design practical tools and guidance to help care homes navigate digital transformation.

The session will also introduce findings and learning from the project’s UK-wide survey of older adult care homes, mapping digital infrastructure, technology use, workforce readiness, leadership approaches and priorities for future development.

Maria is a Postdoctoral Researcher at the University of Glasgow and Team Leader for ENRICH Scotland, which works to support research within care home settings and strengthen collaboration between researchers, care home staff, residents and families.

Attendees can expect a practical and research focused session with time for questions and discussion.
