Research Showcase – Assistive Technology and Dementia Care

July 8 @ 12:00 pm - 12:45 pm

Assistive Technology and Dementia Care

What can the UK learn from Japan about technology and dementia care. And how might robotics, virtual reality, smart homes, and artificial intelligence support people living with dementia.

This livestream is part of the Dementia Researcher weekly Showcase series. Each week we host a 45 minute online session bringing researchers together to share their work, methods, and ideas.

In this session, Bethany Linder will share insights from her Churchill Fellowship exploring advances in assistive dementia technology in Japan. Through visits with leading experts in robotics, virtual reality, and smart home technologies, Bethany examined how one of the world’s fastest ageing populations is using technology to support people living with dementia.

The session will explore what has worked, what has not worked, and future directions in assistive technology, alongside reflections on how lessons from Japan could help improve dementia care in the UK.

Bethany is a dementia researcher at the Nuffield Department of Primary Care Health Sciences, University of Oxford. Her work focuses on using technology to support older adults and people affected by dementia, including current research exploring how artificial intelligence could support medication management for people living with dementia.

Attendees can expect a research focused session with time for questions and discussion.
