Research Showcase – Why Communities Matter in Digital Health Research

How do we make sure digital health research reflects the people it is intended to support? And what happens when communities are involved in research rather than simply being studied?
This livestream is part of the Dementia Researcher weekly Showcase series. Each week we host a 45 minute online session bringing researchers together to share their work, methods and ideas.
In this session, Anisha Ramjuttun will explore the importance of public engagement and community involvement in digital health research. Drawing on their work within an NHS research study using technologies including sensors, wearable devices and sleep mats to monitor people’s health in their own homes, Anisha will consider how researchers can communicate this work and involve a wider range of communities in shaping it.
The session will draw on Anisha’s experience of community outreach across Surrey and working with lived experience groups. They will discuss the importance of making research understandable and relevant to different audiences, building relationships beyond traditional research settings, and creating opportunities for people to contribute their knowledge and experiences.
Anisha is a Research Assistant at Surrey and Borders Partnership NHS Foundation Trust. Their work combines digital health research with public engagement, with a particular interest in ensuring different communities have opportunities to understand, participate in and influence research.
Attendees can expect a practical and research focused session with time for questions and discussion.
