Inside a Successful MRC Research Application

The Medical Research Council (MRC) is running a free online webinar on Tuesday 20 October 2026, 2:00pm to 3:15pm (UK time), looking at how public partnerships shape strong research and what that looks like inside a funded application.
MRC encourages its research community to involve people in helping to inform and improve research wherever that brings benefit to the research and to society. If you are thinking about applying for funding and want to get patient and public involvement right from the start, this session offers a view from both the funder and a successful team.
What the webinar covers
The session opens with an introduction to the MRC Centre of Research Excellence (MRC CoRE) model, and why MRC uses maturity levels to assess public partnerships.

Case study: inside a successful MRC CoRE application
Professor Peter Magill, Director, and team from the MRC Centre of Research Excellence in Restorative Neural Dynamics, which is developing device-based treatments for brain conditions including Parkinson’s and dementia.
Presentations are followed by questions to the panel.

The webinar is aimed at researchers and at public involvement and engagement professionals. It will be especially useful for early career researchers preparing larger funding bids, and for anyone curious about the role of a public advisor researcher in a research team.
