Research Showcase – Mapping Brain Ageing with Multimodal Imaging

Why do people experience brain ageing so differently. And how can combining multiple types of brain imaging help us better understand Alzheimer’s disease and related symptoms.
This livestream is part of the Dementia Researcher weekly Showcase series. Each week we host a 45 minute online session bringing researchers together to share their work, methods, and ideas.
In this session, Dr Lily Cheng will present her research using computational modelling, multimodal neuroimaging, and biomarkers to investigate the biological diversity of brain ageing and Alzheimer’s disease. She will introduce SuperBigFLICA, a semi-supervised multimodal data fusion framework that integrates amyloid PET, tau PET, grey matter density, cortical thickness, and pial surface area to identify patterns shared across imaging modalities.
The session will explore how these multimodal brain imaging patterns relate to cognition and neuropsychiatric symptoms, while also discussing the opportunities and challenges of interpreting complex data fusion approaches in dementia research.
Lily Cheng is a Research Fellow at McLean Hospital in Belmont, Massachusetts. Her research focuses on computational neuroscience, multimodal neuroimaging, and biomarkers to better understand heterogeneity in brain ageing, Alzheimer’s disease, and neuropsychiatric symptoms.
